Luca Toolan responded to his former co-star’s ‘sad’ response to his exit as he was seen bowing out of the long-running show after 16 months
Coronation Street star Luca Toolan responded to his former co-star’s ‘sad’ response to his exit as he was seen bowing out of the long-running show after 16 months.
During Monday night’s (January 6) episode of the ITV soap, Luca’s character Mason Radcliffe lost his life after being stabbed in an attack by his brothers, Matty and Logan.
Corrie fans have recently watched Mason trying to turn things around after he was eventually served justice for his cruel bullying campaign against Liam Connor last year. But he’s struggled to escape his siblings who have been determined to cause havoc on the cobbles, and not just for Mason.
But the teen decided to turn on his family, who have been seen taunting and beating him previously, after DS Lisa Swain showed Mason photographs taken at the crime scene of her late partner Becky’s death and revealed that his brothers were behind the murder.
He set about helping DS Swain and after getting his brothers questioned, he prepared to leave having accepted a job offer from Stu Carpenter in Germany. But as he asked Dylan Wilson for help in searching his brothers’ flat for a box of photographs for him to take with him, they were caught by the troubled pair.
After Mason was seemingly fine after a beating from his older siblings, things changed as Mason was seen going about his day. During it, he and Dylan discussed the latter carrying a knife for protection before the screen blurred back to reality. Mason was back sitting on the playground, only this time, he was bleeding heavily from a stab wound, inflicted by his brothers. It was revealed that Dylan had brought the knife he’d been hiding for months in a bid to help save Mason.
Scared, he threatened Matty and Logan, only for Logan to take the knife and as Mason jumped to Dylan’s defence, Matty pushed his younger sibling in Logan’s direction and right into the zombie knife. It was Abi Webster was then the first at the scene to find Mason bleeding and did her best to stop the flow of blood before the ambulance showed up, which was delayed due to a hoax call.
Betsy Swain arrived, and she and Abi assured a scared Mason that he would be alright. However, the attempts to save his life ultimately failed and it was confirmed that Mason had died as a result of his injuries.
Following the scenes, Charlie Wrenshall, who is famed for playing Corrie’s Liam, took to Instagram to pay tribute to his castmate. Alongside pictures of himself with Luca filming on the cobbles and posing for a last snap alongside co-stars Mikey North and Samia Longchambon, the young actor said: “Mason Radcliffe @lucatoolan
“Luca you absolutely smashed it. It’s sad to think that your time on the cobbles is over now but wow you went out in style. I’d do anything to go back to July 2023 and re-live all of the memories we made together off and on set. well done mate.”
Luca then said in response to the post: “Charlie flipping Wrenshall my brother in arms. I love you so much man. You’re so far beyond your years thank you for all the memories the laughs the tears. I’ve got a brother for life in you. Shame you’re a blue I’ll see you soon man.”
