Coronation Street has confirmed the shock return of Clayton Hibbs in its latest spoilers. The son of Shona Platt is currently in prison having been put behind bars in 2016.
It was Clayton who killed Kylie Platt, the late wife of his mum’s now-husband David Platt. The latter had to say a heartbreaking goodbye to his wife following a tragic stabbing, carried out by Clayton on the street.
Kylie had just announced her family’s plans to move to Barbados to live with her sister, Becky, after she killed ex Callum Logan as he was attacking sister-in-law Sarah.
But her excitement about the move was interrupted when she noticed her friend Gemma Winter being assaulted by Clayton, a former acquaintance of Callum. Kylie ran over to help Gemma but was horrifyingly stabbed in the chest by Clayton who fled the scene.
After cradling his wife as she passed away in his arms in heartbreaking scenes, David went on to attempt to kill Clayton, before the teen was finally arrested and jailed.
It was later that David and Shona found love, only for him to be rocked by the identity of her son, who later held his mum at gunpoint. But it’s now been confirmed that Clayton will return to Shona and David’s lives as actor Callum Harrison, who was last seen in 2020, reprises the role.
It starts next week in the ITV soap when David confides in brother Nick Tilsley about concealing the visiting order from Clayton from Shona. Nick advises him to come clean to his wife as she’s bound to find out in the long run. David forms a plan and is soon seen visiting Clayton in prison.
Later, David finds Shona in a terrible state and she reveals that she had a visit from the police and that Clayton is in hospital. Will David come clean about his meeting with her son?
Revealing how Shona feels about the news of Clayton’s being in hospital, actress Julia Goulding said: “The police visit her at work and tell her he is in hospital. She races home in a blind panic, is upset and apprehensive to even mention Clayton in front of David. Also they’ve got lots going on in the family, but seeing Clayton becomes her priority so she races to hospital. She doesn’t think twice about that.”
Upon seeing him in the hospital, the soap star explained: “Clayton doesn’t want to see her and is very angry. Unbeknown to her she has been contacted by him and the prison, so she is very confused. He screams at her to get out, she can’t understand why and just wants to be with her son. At this point she knows he has tried to take his own life but cant work out why and why she wasn’t told. It is scary, it brings back a lot of the memory loss stuff.”
And Julia revealed she is loving being back in the midst of the action. Asked if she’s pleased to be exploring Shona’s past, she said: “Clayton is her son and is always going to be part of her life. If it causes drama then all the better, I love it. And it’s also really nice to see Callum when he comes in. Let’s keep the drama going for David and Shona, otherwise it’d be very dull wouldn’t it?”
