Emmerdale viewers are convinced that they know how Rebecca White really died following a bombshell from her ex Ross Barton after he made his return to the village
Emmerdale fans reckon they’ve pieced together the ‘true’ fate of Rebecca White – and it appears Ross Barton is linked to the mystery.
Ross, portrayed by Michael Parr, made a dramatic comeback to the show this week after a six-year hiatus. His last appearance was in 2008 when he departed the village alongside Rebecca White, played by Emily Head, and her son Sebastian White, the biological son of Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), to embark on a fresh start in Liverpool.
Despite being off-screen, Ross has been a topic of conversation due to his child Moses with Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins). However, this week saw Ross return to the Dales amid the illicit fight plot that’s entangled Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle).
In a shocking turn at an underground boxing match aired on 28 October, Ross emerged as Billy’s surprise rival. Yet, it was during Wednesday’s instalment (October 30) that Ross dropped a bombshell about a past Emmerdale resident.
While catching up with Charity, he spilled the beans about his life post-Emmerdale since leaving in 2018. When Charity probed him about Rebecca, Ross disclosed the sorrowful update that their paths had diverged some time back and that Rebecca had died, reports the Manchester Evening News.
He reminisced about Rebecca needing him to care for Seb as she “had to go into hospital for a routine operation, nothing serious”. But later, Ross received “the call”, which seemed to imply he was informed of Rebecca’s passing. Ross explained: “It turns out I was still listed as her next of kin. They said it was a one-in-a-thousand chance.”
“Her heart just stopped and that was it. I let Seb go to sleep that night not knowing he didn’t have a mum anymore.”
Now, viewers are convinced Ross is spinning a yarn about Rebecca’s demise, suspecting he played a part in her untimely end. A fan voiced their frustration on an Emmerdale Facebook group, stating: “This has p****d me off. Did they need to kill her off?”.
The speculation doesn’t stop there, with other enthusiasts sharing their hunch that Ross might be the culprit. One person commented: “I don’t trust him, he defo killed her.”
Another chimed in with: “It doesn’t sit right with me either. He’s not told Charity everything.” While someone else concurred: “My money’s on Ross.”
Earlier in the year, Michael couldn’t hide his enthusiasm about coming back to the show, saying: “I’m over the moon to be returning to Emmerdale.”
He continued, expressing his attachment to his character: “Ross is a character I’m extremely fond of and I’m excited to explore what he’s been up to over the past five years. After seeing the scripts, I can’t wait for the audience to see what’s in store. One thing I can say is Ross’ return will no doubt create fireworks.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
