Actor John Thomson is best known for his roles in Cold Feet, The Fast Show and Men Behaving Badly
John Thomson, known for his role as Jesse Chadwick, is making a comeback to Coronation Street. The actor has made a brief return to the iconic cobbles for Gail Platt’s (played by Helen Worth) exit storyline.
In this plot, John, 55, steps in for Sean Wilson, who portrays Gail’s former spouse Martin Platt. Jesse’s reappearance on the Street has certainly stirred things up, particularly given his past relationship with Eileen Grimshaw.
It’s been fourteen years since Jesse was last spotted in Weatherfield, having been driven out of the Rovers Return by an irate Eileen. John expressed his delight at being approached by ITV executives to reprise his role as Jesse, describing it as “perfect timing”.

He shared: “I was really happy to get the call, it was always a case of never say never, but it came in between jobs for me so the timing was perfect. I have a young daughter so I don’t like to travel too far from home and although the last time I was in the show was 15 years ago it has felt like meeting up with an old friend you haven’t seen for a long time and the years just melt away.”
When quizzed about what his Corrie character had been doing since he was last seen on the cobbles, he added: “Well he did remarry, but that didn’t work out. He was also badly let down by a friend which culminated in him being left in some dire circumstances. So as a means to reinvent himself he started to travel the world to, as they say, find himself.”
John, famed for his roles in iconic shows like The Fast Show, Men Behaving Badly, and Cold Feet, as well as films such as 24 Hour Party People and The Brothers Grimsby, has also made a name for himself as a comedian and narrator. His voice has graced numerous radio shows over the years, reports the Mirror.

The actor tied the knot with his long-term partner Samantha Sharp back in 2005, and together they welcomed two daughters into the world; Olivia in 2002, and Sophia Melody in 2010. However, the marriage came to an end, with John and Samantha parting ways in 2015. It’s believed that John is currently enjoying the single life.
In a joint statement released in 2015, the pair addressed their separation: “Sadly our marriage has irretrievably broken down. We have now been separated since November 2014 and we are currently in the final stages of a divorce. The priority is the welfare of our children and we ask that you please respect our privacy at this time.”
