Coronation Street’s Gail is set to leave the soap later this year – but fans are convinced she’s about to get killed off in a heartbreaking twist
Coronation Street fans are convinced a cobbles resident is about to murder Gail Platt, in a heartbreaking twist. Soap legend Helen Worth, who plays Gail, will soon be leaving the soap after 50 years. Her departure was confirmed in June, with the original exit storyline due to feature Gail’s ex-husband Martin Platt (Sean Wilson).
However, it was reported that Sean had left – despite already filming weeks’ worth of scenes. As a result, the soap enlisted past star John Thomson, who plays Jesse, to return as part of Gail’s exit. Last week, Jesse made his comeback – and it was revealed that he and Gail had struck up a holiday romance a few years back, when they were both travelling in Thailand.
Jesse has since clashed with Gail’s kids Sarah (Tina O’Brien) and David (Jack P. Shephard), and things are even more tense since Gail put her and David’s home up for sale, in a bid to get money for granddaughter Bethany’s (Lucy Fallon) medical bills.
Gail had a heart attack this week
But during Wednesday’s episode (October 23) things took a dramatic turn when it appeared Gail was having a heart attack – to which Jesse phoned an ambulance. She was then rushed to hospital and went into cardiac arrest.
The doctors later told the Platts that she had a blockage in her artery. As a result, she needed to have an operation to get a stent inserted. However, fans are now predicting that Gail will be killed off following the news of her exit. But in a shock twist , they are convinced someone will murder her.
Fans think David could kill his mum in a shock twist
Sharing their thoughts on a Corrie Facebook fan page, one person said: “Poor Gail, I really hope she’s going to be ok.” Someone else mused: “What if all along David is going to murder Gail and there is no happy ending exit for her.”
A third replied: “Would he really murder his mum?” to which another person said: “He has a dark side. And it’s about time he has a decent storyline.” A fifth wrote: “If Gail gets killed off I will riot, but I can see this happening.”
Speaking about her departure, Helen said: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.
“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
