Coronation Street Platts ‘to leave cobbles’ after 50 years as new owner of home ‘revealed’

Coronation Street legends, the Platts, could be set to say farewell to the cobbles as fans have ‘worked out’ the new owner of their beloved no.8 residence

Coronation Street fans reckon they know who exactly is going to buy and move into the Platt’s house on the street – and it’s not Carla Connor. Recently, it was revealed that Gail Platt (Helen Worth) had put up her beloved No.8 residence for sale. Gail put her house on the market in a bid to get money for granddaughter Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) – following her botched cosmetic procedure abroad.

As fans will recall, Bethany was hospitalised with sepsis, a perforated bowel and pneumonia, following a botched surgery abroad. She now has to live with a permanent stoma and has since arrived back in Weatherfield.

The shock sale of Gail’s house also coincides with Helen Worth’s exit storyline, as Helen is leaving after 50 years on the soap. What’s more, son David (Jack P. Shepherd) has been left fuming by Gail putting their house up for sale, as it would mean he’d have to find somewhere else to live with Shona (Julia Goulding) and Max (Paddy Dever).

Last week, he was upset to find an estate agent placing a “For Sale” sign in front of No.8. And soon enough, potential buyers turned up, including Carla Connor (Alison King) and Ryan (Ryan Prescott).

David came up with several lies about the house in a bid to put them off. However, Carla m saw through David’s act and told him: “It don’t matter. I’ll probably just rip the whole place out. I’m thinking of buying it!”

Talking about David’s behaviour, actor Jack said: “David’s always been hellbent on it being his house, and it’s never been any of the other siblings’ house, just David’s.

“In his head it’s his birthright! He’s never moved out, but maybe he should have done. That’s why he always insists that it’s his house, and it’s just as much Nick (Ben Price)’s and Sarah (Tina O’Brien)’s. But because he thinks it’s his house, when Gail’s selling his house, he kicks off.”

However, while Carla has hinted that she could be the one to move into the Platt’s home, other viewers reckon it’s another beloved character. Sharing their thoughts online, fans are convinced it could be DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and her daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin).

“I’m gonna need Gail Platt to sell or persuade Lisa Swain to buy her house and then Swain and Betsy can live on the street. Carla can see Swain everyday then. I’m begging”, said one person on X. Someone else added: “Yes! She definitely needs somewhere more local.” A third person wrote: “Swain will probably move in.”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
