Coronation Street’s Tina O’Brien supports co-star’s 40-year update as she ‘hasn’t changed’

The Sarah Platt actress was responding to an update from her Bernie Winter co-star Jane Hazlegrove

Tina O’Brien was among those supporting her Coronation Street co-star Jane Hazlegrove as she revealed it had been 40 years since her first television appearance.

The actress is currently much-loved for playing Bernie Winter in the ITV soap having joined back in 2019. Jane’s Coronation Street character was described as “an old raver who still sees herself as a free spirit”.

An early storyline saw her steal her pregnant daughter’s urine to sell fake positive pregnancy tests. But after settling into the street, she’s revealed herself to have a big heart who would fight tooth and and nail for her loved ones, which was recently proven during the tragic loss of her son, Paul Foreman.

Before playing Bernie, Jane played Sue Clayton in Corrie back in 1985, the youngest daughter of Harry and Connie Clayton. She is also known for playing paramedic Kathleen ‘Dixie’ Dixon in the BBC medical drama Casualty.

She also played Rosie in Making Out, Rosemary Mason in Silent Witness, Yvonne Bradley in London’s Burning and had roles in Jonathan Creek, The Bill, Doctors, Families, Lovejoy and Holby City.

But in a recent social media post, Jane was marking her first ever television appearance in the TV film ‘Threads’. She played Alison Kemp in the apocalyptic war drama from the BBC which gave a dramatic account of nuclear war and its effects in Britain, specifically on the city of Sheffield.

Sharing a picture of her appearance in the programme, aged around 16, Jane, 56, wrote on Instagram: “Forty years ago! Threads.. didn’t quite understand what I was about to take part in! It terrified the B Jesus out of me when I watched it .. and I’m sorry to all those 50 somethings that experienced abject fear at a very scary global time!!

“And here we are .. and what have we learnt? I’ve learnt just be nice, just be kind, don’t be a wanker, and watch your ego…it can really screw you up!!!”

Tina, who is famed for playing Sarah Platt in Corrie, was quick to respond, writing: “Talented actress then and even more so now! And still learning and loving your manifestos – basically, ‘Don’t be a d**k'”. Former Corrie co-star Jack James Ryan, who played Jacob Hay, also replied: “Look at her,” with a love heart eyes emoji.

And her fans and followers were also responding to the update. @michael_starke_ said: “You haven’t changed a bit. And you e always been nice. All the best.” @juliedawnjohnston320 echoed: “You haven’t changed one bit.” @francisharcombe wrote: “Brilliant this Jane.”
