Coronation Street has confirmed that Joel Deering was murdered and a number of suspects have been revealed – but fans think they’ve worked out who the killer is
Coronation Street recently confirmed a thrilling murder mystery involving the villainous character Joel Deering, portrayed by Calum Lill.
Initially, authorities suspected Joel may have taken his own life after he disappeared from the scene following the revelation of his wicked deeds. However, Monday night brought a shocking turn of events when it was disclosed that Joel had been murdered, triggering an intense police investigation with everyone considered a suspect.
In the forthcoming weeks, Coronation Street has promised to deliver a series of dramatic flashbacks to assist viewers in piecing together the puzzle. The ITV soap will revisit the night of September 27, when Joel vanished, in one of the street’s most significant ever mysteries.
As several Coronation Street favourites become suspects, fans will see the accused spotlighted on a crime wall photo. The first to be unveiled this week are Ronnie Bailey, portrayed by Vinta Morgan, who is the uncle of Joel’s aggrieved fiancee Dee-Dee Bailey – played by Channique Sterling-Brown, and Mason, played by Luca Toolan, the notorious bully who has seemingly been reforming his ways in recent weeks.
On Wednesday night, the first climactic flashback will be aired as viewers of the ITV soap revisit the tragic night when Joel vanished and witness the events that transpired. As the evidence piles up, audiences will see officer Kit Green, portrayed by Jacob Roberts, being stretched thin, while DS Lisa Swain, played by Vicky Myers, who was forced to step back from the case, begins her own investigations, reports the Liverpool Echo.
As the plot deepens with numerous unexpected twists and turns ahead, the question remains: who is truly guilty of Joel’s death and how long will it take for Kit and Lisa to apprehend the murderer?
Soap fans have already begun theorising about the true culprit, suggesting that both Ronnie and Mason are merely distractions. One viewer took to social media to share their theory: “Just had a revelation. I reckon Joel’s dad murdered him. Do you remember Joel telling Lauren how his Dad used to hurt him. Just a thought.”
In response, another account agreed: “I said dad as well,” while another viewer chimed in: “I do too! ” A different fan speculated: “…or his mum because he’s fallen off that pedestal and ruined her life?”

Meanwhile, another soap enthusiast suggested: “Well, it’s clear they didn’t kill Joel. I think it’ll be someone unexpected like Joel’s parents or his ex wife. #Corrie.”
A different user shared their own theory: “I like this theory. Joel’s Dad turns out to be another Dodgy Deering. Dad pockets the £15,000 and decides to do away with his disappointing son at the same time ! ! ! Like it ! ! #Corrie #WhoMurderedJoelDeering.”
An additional fan theorised: “I think it’s Joel’s dad. They got into an argument. Joel confessed about doing something in the past. His dad fought with him in a fit of rage. #Corrie.”
Coronation Street is on ITV at 8pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
