The Branning family was ripped apart on Monday as Amy Mitchell blamed her half-sister Penny for being responsible for the club crush at Peggy’s that has left her unable to walk
In a dramatic turn of events on EastEnders aired on Monday (October 14), Chelsea Fox was thrown into turmoil as her mother, Denise, unveiled a significant secret about the club crush.
Back in August, a near-fatal incident at Peggy’s resulted in several locals being injured, including Lauren Branning (portrayed by Jacqueline Jossa) and Amy Branning (Ellie Dadd), who suffered a cardiac arrest and is now unable to walk.
The bar manager, Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine), was immediately held responsible for the accident, leading to her father Jack (Scott Maslen) treating her coldly.
However, it was Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) who caused the overcrowding at the bar by selling extra tickets to the event as part of a revenge scheme against Penny.
Denise Fox (Diane Parish) has been aware of the truth for some time but has begun to rekindle her relationship with her estranged husband, Jack.
During the latest visit to Walford, Denise had spent the night with Jack, who made her breakfast the following morning, reports the Daily Star.
He was informed that the CCTV footage from Peggy’s was entirely corrupted, meaning there would be no evidence to exonerate Penny.
Jack reminded Denise that their divorce hadn’t been finalised yet and asked her to consider reconciling, but Chelsea was upset when she saw her mother leaving Jack’s house.
Chelsea feared that Denise might reveal her involvement in causing the crush, but Denise assured her daughter that there was no evidence against her.
Amy had a hard time during her physiotherapy session and ended up arguing with Penny when she showed up at the hospital.
Jack’s support for Amy was evident, as his frosty attitude towards Penny persisted. Feeling alienated, Penny made the choice to leave Walford and return to Paris, although she was still under police investigation.
Harry Mitchell (portrayed by Elijah Holloway) tried convincing her to stay, but Penny was determined to go.
The drama escalated back home as Jack and Denise came together to help Amy cope, just as Penny disclosed her decision to depart from the Square, resulting in a family dispute.
Amy held onto the belief that Penny was to blame for her injuries, leading to heightened tensions, with Denise attempting unsuccessfully to mediate.
Amid the familial discord, Denise was consumed by guilt and felt compelled to confess the truth that Penny was not at fault for the tragedy.
“It wasn’t her that caused the crush, that put you in the hospital,” Denise admitted, “It was Chelsea.”
With an ongoing police probe into the matter, questions arise: Will Chelsea’s liberty be threatened? Is Jack on the verge of arresting Chelsea for the incident?
