Coronation Street fans already think they know who killed Joel Deering on the ITV soap, ahead of scenes revealing the killer amid a new murder whodunnit
Coronation Street fans think they have already worked out Joel’s killer on the ITV soap amid a murder twist.
It was revealed in spoilers recently that the missing villain would be found dead, after suspicion he may have taken his own life. Amid Dee-Dee Bailey believing her criminal ex was on the run, a twist will see the news that Joel is actually dead.
But as spoilers confirm it’s murder, with a weapon revealed and a cause of death announced, who is to blame? A murder investigation will be underway as a number of suspects are questioned, with many having a secret to hide.
Some viewers already think they know what happened to Joel though, and a killer may have been let slip. Over a week ago when we last saw Joel, one character in particular was acting strangely.
Not only were they hiding a mystery injury, but they also seemed keen to shut down the case as as soon as possible, trying to get a suicide verdict. DS Swain is under suspicion by fans, especially given her daughter Betsy Swain was tricked into helping Joel, and he even attacked her.
Before he vanished he even threatened to kill the teenager, so has Swain killed Joel in revenge? Some fans certainly think so, believing they have already worked out Joel’s murderer.

Taking to social media one fan posted: “Knew it! It was Swain!” Another agreed: “Swain had sore ribs the other day,” as a third fan posted: “A lot of people thinking that Swain could be Joel’s murderer. I have a horrible feeling that she is too following her signs of pain a few weeks ago. I think she had an allocation with him before he died.”
Other suspects include Dee-Dee’s family Ed and Ronnie Bailey, Kit Green, Betsy Swain and anyone else that wanted to see the back of him. His own father Gus is called in for questioning too.
That said, viewers are still convinced he isn’t dead. Monday’s episode may change that opinion once they see the storyline kick off, but it is soap land after all.
With Joel now dead, we’re about to find out who in Weatherfield is and isn’t keeping secrets and what they might be. It’s thought several residents will face suspicion and questioning, with some likely trying to cover up something. But who really killed Joel and is he actually dead? The death is confirmed with actor Calum Lill leaving his role.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
