EastEnders heavily hinted at Linda Carter’s death in new filming images this week with two cast members rejoining the Carter family for a funeral, but could it be a red herring?
Viewers are predicting a shocking death this Christmas on EastEnders, but it might not be Linda Carter after all.
It was teased Kellie Bright’s character would be killed off more than 10 years after her debut on the BBC soap. But now, some fans think filming images are a red herring and that it’s someone else that dies, not Linda.
Photos revealed the cast assembling for a funeral in location snaps released this week, with two big returns teased to be on the way. The pictures focussed on the Carter family, with Johnny Carter reunited with his siblings Nancy and Lee for some sad scenes.
Their grandmother Elaine Peacock, pal Callum Highway and Linda’s BFF Sharon Watts are all in attendance. Linda is notably not there, sparking concern she will die.
Clues including a white coffin with a pink rose and Nancy wearing pink flamingo earrings have left viewers fearing Linda will die very soon. There was also actress Kellie posting a picture on Instagram the very day these images were released, with her holding a pot with the words ‘The End’ at the bottom of it.

It could all be a clever misdirection from the EastEnders production team, designed to keep viewers guessing. After all last Christmas, Keanu Taylor was the unfortunate victim in ‘The Six’ storyline, and actor Danny Walters was photographed at an airport and on set for another funeral scene – which turned out to be his own.
This wouldn’t be the first time the soap has done this either. New on-set images, obtained by The Sun, depict Johnny in a dire state, being helped out of the church by his older brother Lee, clearly intoxicated. Johnny is later seen swigging vodka from a bottle atop a gravestone while Linda’s mother Elaine, played by actress Harriet Thorpe, and her granddaughter engage in a heated argument.
His on-screen sister, Nancy, played by Maddy Hill, is also pictured having a stern exchange with her before she eventually slaps her across the face in a dramatic moment. But with Linda missing, some fans are now convinced it isn’t her funeral but could be someone else’s.
Viewers are fearing Shirley Carter will be killed off over a year since she abruptly left the soap. If not Shirley, some fans have wondered if Linda’s husband Mick will be laid to rest almost two years on from him seemingly drowning.
Have they found Mick’s body? Could Shirley be killed off amid fans wanting a return? Taking to social media, one fan posted: “Shirley or it will be one of George’s daughters, I don’t think it’s Linda as that’s too obvious.”
Another said: “I reckon it’s a funeral for Mick,” as a third added: “Possibly Mick’s body has been found.” A fourth fan guessed: “Shirley Carter funeral looms,” as another said: “Shirley? Or they’ve found Mick’s body.”
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
