Coronation Street’s Joel Deering (Calum Lill) went missing at the end of September, with DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) convinced that he had died by suicide after leaving a note in his abandoned car.
However, in upcoming scenes, his body is set to be discovered, and it becomes very clear that he didn’t take his own life.
Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) breaks the news to Lisa and Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) that Joel’s body has been found in a local river, and a post-mortem later confirms that he died as a result of two blows to the head.
While Kit breaks the news of Joel’s murder to Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) and Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), Lisa tells shocked locals in the Rovers.
The police waste no time in getting on with their investigation, as Kit questions Lauren about her whereabouts on the night of Joel’s death.
When Kit later reveals to Lisa that they suspect the weapon used to kill Joel was a crowbar, her interest is piqued when she learns from Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) that Mason had one in his possession.
Lisa warns daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) to steer clear of the troubled teen, but her warning only sparks Betsy to warn Mason that the police are onto him.
Terrified Mason soon tries to dispose of the crowbar in the bins behind Underworld, but it doesn’t go to plan when Kit catches him in the act.
Elsewhere, Kit’s investigation points him in the direction of Ed and Ronnie Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges and Vinta Morgan), and soon he and a colleague stop them for questioning.
As Ed claims that he spent the night of Joel’s death at home with Dee-Dee and Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell), Ronnie reveals he was home alone.
When later quizzed about his satnav, Ronnie explains that he last used it when he and Michael were helping Joel move out of his flat months ago.
However, when Michael lets slip that they used his car to help Joel, Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) realises that Ronnie has been lying – but what will she do?
