Former Home and Away star Bonnie Sveen reflects on exit from soap

“I’ll never stop loving everybody that I got to work with.”

Former Home and Away star Bonnie Sveen has reflected on her exit from the soap.

The actor made her Summer Bay debut as Ricky Sharpe in 2013. She confirmed her departure in 2016 after landing a role in TV drama The Secret Daughter.

In a new interview with TV Week, Sveen revealed that she often gets emotional when thinking about her experience on Home and Away.

“It was just so joyous. I guess I feel a little bit sad because you can’t go back,” she said.

“I cried to my agent about it last year too, when I went and met with the guys again. I’ll never stop loving everybody that I got to work with.”

During her time in Summer Bay, Ricky was involved in a number of hard-hitting storylines. She began dating River Boy Darryl ‘Brax’ Braxton (Steve Peacocke), who was later imprisoned for a murder he didn’t commit.

Ricky arrived at the prison to reveal she was pregnant with Brax’s baby, but he broke up with her before she could tell him. She later suffered a miscarriage after getting caught up in a bomb explosion at the hospital.

On working with co-star Peacocke, Sveen recalled: “I was just super lucky to work with Steve and be a River Girl. Ricky wasn’t a damsel in distress – she was more of a mother role.

“In some ways I feel like I can play that stuff better now because I actually am a mother. There’s more layers to me.”

Ricky married Nate Cooper in 2016, with the couple deciding to part ways just weeks later after realising they’re better apart.

Although he was devastated by how things turned out, Nate wanted Ricky to be happy and secretly called Brax to encourage him to fight for his ex.

Peacocke later reprised his role as Brax for a handful of scenes, which saw Ricky choose to leave Summer Bay for a new life with the infamous River Boy.

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5, with repeat screenings at 6pm on 5STAR and first look screenings at 6.30pm on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Prime Video in the UK.
