Coronation Street viewers saw DS Swain suggest Joel Deering was dead on the ITV soap on Monday night, and now fans think some cryptic scenes gave away a murder twist
Coronation Street viewers think Joel Deering may have been killed by a Weatherfield resident, after a telling scene on Monday night.
Joel was declared dead by DS Swain, as the detective and colleague Kit Green made a discovery. After Dee-Dee Bailey was left a worrying voice message by her ex after his grim crimes were exposed recently, the detectives found a note and his car abandoned by a bridge.
Swain and Kit rummaged through Joel’s flat and came to the conclusion that he may have taken his own life to avoid justice. But some scenes may have teased there was more to his vanishing act.
Viewers are convinced Joel may have been killed and that someone familiar carried out the crime. Scenes with Swain and Kit left fans convinced they could be involved, and that one of them might have killed Joel.
But is there a cover-up underway? One viewer commented: “Do we think Joel attacked her?” as Swain appeared to be injured. So did she and Joel have a showdown leading to his death?
Another comment read: “I’m going full Dee dee style detective with this and I need a life but … when Kit and Swain are in Joel’s flat they’re clearly discussing/making sure they have a believable story and are leaving no evidence behind in their cover-up. A third viewer theory read: “Rewatched the scenes, when Swain said “Betsy’s involvement changed everything” – she has so killed him/ accidentally killed him.”
Other fans are convinced Joel isn’t actually dead and may be plotting revenge against residents. Dee-Dee had gone to the location where Joel’s car was left at and asked Lauren Bolton for guidance as she began to scour the area nearby.
Lauren, who remained in the hospital with her son Frankie, has recently told Dee-Dee that a tracker on Joel’s phone had located him in an unknown location, which prompted the solicitor to check the log of Joel’s past locations. However, a car covered up soon caught her attention and it wasn’t long before she put two and two together, realising that the vehicle was most probably Joel’s getaway car.
Later on, this appeared to be confirmed when Kit told Swain that the car had been sold to someone matching Joel’s description. Viewers seeing these scenes wondered if Joel was in hiding and ready to flee for good, or maybe his plan had been thwarted. But has something happened to him?
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
