Coronation Street are set to pay tribute to the late Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) as his funeral gets underway in upcoming scenes.
Paul sadly passed away from MND earlier this month, surrounded by his family – though devastatingly husband Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) was unable to make it to his bedside in time.
As next week rolls around, Paul’s family members make the final arrangements for his funeral.
Having argued over almost every detail so far, Billy and Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) decide to choose the flowers together, which, of course, starts another argument.
Later, Bernie confides in Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) that she might not be able to give Paul the funeral she would have liked to, but that she’ll find a fitting place to spread his ashes.
On what would have been Paul and Billy’s first wedding anniversary, Billy prepares for the funeral, but is horrified when he arrives at the church to find a drunken Denny Foreman (Danny Cunningham).
Denny was Paul’s estranged dad, who only got back in contact after learning about Paul’s diagnosis.
As Denny sulks in the shadows, Billy orders him to stay out of sight and behave himself.
The service begins with Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) carrying Paul’s coffin down the aisle, and Billy steps forward to conduct the service – but will everything go to plan?
Later, as the finishing touches are added to Paul’s memorial rave on the street, Bernie asks Todd to retrieve Paul’s ashes so that she can give him the best spot on the dancefloor.
When a hungover Billy heads to the undertakers to collect them himself, he is shocked to discover that Bernie already has them. How will he react?
As Bernie thanks the partygoers for giving Paul a night to remember, she reveals her plan to send Paul’s ashes into space. What will Billy make of her idea?
