Hollyoaks star Anna Passey issues huge warning over Sienna story: ‘You won’t know what to believe’

Hollyoaks star Anna Passey has warned viewers to expect the unexpected when it comes to what’s ahead for Sienna Blake.

Sienna, as viewers know, has found herself engaged to one true love Ethan Williams (Matthew James Bailey) after the Channel 4 soap took a historic time jump one year into the future to mark its new era.

The development excited audiences, who have been crying out for an Ethan and Sienna reunion for a whole year. But as is ever the case in Hollyoaks, no is ever allowed to be happy for too long.

‘I think what’s interesting is that everyone’s so focused on the destination of the time jump, but there’s still been a year [unaccounted for],’ said Anna Passey, discussing the twists with Metro.co.uk. ‘That year has happened.

‘With the Sienna storyline, we get little hints, clues and snippets that actually that year was a big year for her. There’s been loads of things that you can never get back – until you can figure out what happened in that year, you can’t quite understand where she is.

‘I think at that point the audience will be quite split. Everyone will have their own opinions on how happy is happy? Should they do this, should they do that? There’s a bit of a twist in there.’

As for what any of that is referring to you, you’ll have to wait and see.

In addition to rekindling her romance with Ethan, Sienna has also been getting to know ‘uncle’ Jeremy (Jeremy Sheffield), who was the subject of a controversial and upsetting retcon, with the show oddly making him out to be Sienna’s biological father.

Jeremy’s true nature has been the subject of much speculation, especially given that actor Jeremy told Metro that his new character is even worse than Patrick.

But unsuspecting Sienna has taken the opportunity to get to know her new father, that’s for sure, and with Dilly Harcourt (Emma Johnsey-Smith) and Liberty Savage (Jessamy Stoddart) by her side, she seemingly has the family she has always wanted.

Factor in a potential happy-ever-after with Ethan and Sienna’s dreams are on the cusp of coming true. But, as I said before, it’s possible that her ‘perfect’ life will come crashing down.

‘I think with Sienna all she ever wants in happiness in relationships,’ said Anna. ‘She’s not good at relationships but she wants them so much, whether it’s friendship, or family, love interests or her own children, she tries so hard.

‘I think that’s why the audience are always behind her because she loves hard and the audience loves hard for her, but they know she’s always got something in her that she feels she doesn’t deserve it.

‘She gets to the final hurdle and you’re going, “Please don’t ruin it,” and she manages to ruin it and usually it’s not her fault.

‘In this instance I think you question whether she’s right. You know when you want something so badly you can almost be blind to some things and you almost want to ignore the warning signs? I just think, “I’ve got it, keep what you’ve got and shut your mouth,” but I think the audience will be like, ‘Ooh, I’m not sure about this.’

‘It’s a really hard thing to talk about. It’s definitely not plain sailing and the audience won’t expect where we’ve been or where we’re going. People will be quite conflicted about what they think about it.’

Hollyoaks streams Mondays to Wednesdays from 7am on Channel 4’s streaming platform, or catch episodes on TV at 7pm on E4.
