EastEnders fans have been left upset after learning that the BBC’s flagship soap will be moved next week to make way for a Boris Johnson interview.
The former Prime Minister will sit down with Laura Kuenssberg next Thursday (October 3) for an interview which will hit TV screens at 7:30pm on the evening in question.
As die-hard EastEnders viewers know, the BBC One soap often airs in such a slot. The episode will instead hit screens on Friday (October 4) and it will likely be available to stream on iPlayer ahead of broadcast.
However, the very fact that EastEnders is being shifted around the schedule again has led to fans making their feelings known.
‘Why couldn’t they just put Boris Interview on on the Friday instead,’ said Kerry Louise on X, formerly known as Twitter.
A fellow social media user concurred with such a statement, writing: ‘Why can’t they put the interview on Friday or on BBC News?’
X/Twitter user Avis added: ‘I’m fed up with my viewing choices (that I pay to watch) being shoved aside at the drop of a hat. We’ve had months of it because the sports have to (for some unfathomable reason) switch channel mid game now, Politics.’
Fan ModernTVGold also recalled that EastEnders has been shifted out of its slot quite a lot this year.
‘This will mark EE’s fifth Friday outing in 2024 following the January-March disruption due to the FA Cup and in June, due to the Election 2024 campaign and Euro 2024,’ they wrote.
EastEnders, a staple of the BBC’s nightly TV schedule for almost four decades, will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year.
In a soap first, a live episode will allow the audience the power of deciding the outcome of one storyline.
While details are scarce at the moment, we do know that the interactive element will involve audience opinion on the desired outcome of a love story.
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
