Emmerdale’s Adam Barton star hints at comeback as Ross returns to village

Adam Thomas appeared on Monday’s Lorraine as he chatted about his role on Waterloo Road and whether he’d be open to returning to Emmerdale as Adam Barton

Emmerdale favourite Adam Thomas couldn’t help but joke about his youthful appearance in a classic clip from the show, as the Adam Barton actor appeared on Lorraine to discuss his current stint on Waterloo Road, his dazzling moves on Strictly Come Dancing, and the tantalising prospect of returning to the ITV soap.

The beloved TV host Lorraine Kelly quizzed: “Emmerdale, of course, the door is never shut, the door is swinging.”

To which an intrigued Adam responded with a light-hearted, “Is it?” before Lorraine pressed on, questioning: “You’re on Waterloo Road just now but if they came back and said, ‘Look, amazing storyline’ would you think about it?”

With a chuckle, Adam admitted: “Listen, never say never Lorraine. Never say never.”

Lorraine echoed his sentiment saying: “I agree 100 percent,” prompting Adam to reminisce further: “With Emmerdale, it was a huge part of my life. I was there eight or nine years; it’s where I cut my teeth,” reports Leeds Live.

As they rolled footage of young Adam Barton, the actor mused: “Look at me, I was a baby then, so cute.”

Reflecting on his time on the show, he shared: “It’s the best job in the world for acting training. It’s all go, all the time.”

Adam’s tenure as Adam Barton saw him bidding farewell to Emmerdale in 2018 after falsely admitting to Emma Barton’s (played by Gillian Kearney) murder, a noble act meant to shield his mother Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb,) from incarceration.

Emma met her end plummeting from a viaduct back in 2017 however, the shocking twist later revealed it was actually Moira who pushed her.

Adam’s exit from the show was nothing short of dramatic, as Aaron (Danny Miller) and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley )staged a daring prison van break-out to free him.

Since then, he’s been living it up abroad, but recent mentions of his name in the ITV soap have sparked speculation about a possible return.

This speculation has been further fueled by the upcoming comeback of his on-screen half-brother, Ross Barton.

Michael Parr, the actor who plays Ross, expressed his excitement about reprising his role, saying: “I’m over the moon to be returning to Emmerdale. Ross is a character I’m extremely fond of and I’m excited to explore what he’s been up to over the past five years.”

He also hinted at a dramatic return, stating: “After seeing the scripts, I can’t wait for the audience to see what’s in store. One thing I can say is Ross’s return will no doubt create fireworks.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
