But Gemma has a plan.
Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street’s Billy Mayhew and Bernie Winter are set to clash even more over Paul Foreman’s funeral next week.
Paul died last week after living with motor neurone disease, and his husband and mum haven’t been able to agree on what kind of funeral to give him. Clergyman Billy wants a traditional service, while quirky Bernie argues that Paul was never religious and would want something a bit different.
In Monday’s (September 23) and Wednesday’s (September 25) episodes, the duo continue to clash, when Gemma comes up with an idea.
She suggests to Bernie that they let Billy have his traditional funeral, but organise an alternative event to remember him their way: a memorial rave.
As the date gets nearer, however, Gemma and their other brother Kit haven’t actually been able to confirm if they can close the street for the event. Will they be able to make it happen, and how will Billy react?
Bernie actor Jane Hazlegrove revealed that the rave does indeed go ahead, and that it was actually a lot of fun to film. She also teased that there’s another interesting way of remembering Paul coming up, too.
“[Bernie] basically throws a rave to remember him, so she gets everyone involved and there’s this massive rave that we shot over two nights, which was a really good release. We were all quite knackered!” Hazlegrove said.
“Bernie has an idea of what she wants to do with the ashes too. It’s not very conventional.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
