Actor Gareth Pierce has teased the return of a love interest for his character on the cobbles
Coronation Street star Gareth Pierce has teased the return of a love interest for his character on the cobbles. The actor joined the ITV soap back in 2020 as the already established Todd Grimshaw.
Todd returned to Weatherfield and wasted no time in interfering in his ex Billy Mayhew’s relationship with Paul Foreman, before his lies about Paul, blaming him for a number of events which were actually Todd’s doing, resulted in Billy ending his relationship with Paul.
It was later that the truth about Todd’s meddling was uncovered and by 2023, Summer Spellman’s three dads had put the past behind them and Paul had reconciled with Billy, moving back into 19a Rosamund Street with him and Summer while Todd remained a close friend of both men.
But, following Paul’s tragic death earlier this month, 17 months after he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Corrie fans were quick to assume that Billy would find himself back in the arms of Todd.
However, Gareth has teased a romantic twist for Todd ahead of a big milestone for his on-screen alter-ego. Speaking to Digital Spy on the red carpet at the National Television Awards last week, Gareth discussed Todd’s love life – promising future developments whether Moses comes back or not.
He said of Corrie’s decision to keep the door open for Moses: “They’ve said that. Michael Fatogun, who played Moses, is a fantastic actor. We tried to instil as much spark as we could in that short-ish time that the characters were together. What Iain [MacLeod, Corrie producer] said is that it’s got potential for Moses to maybe feel like the one that got away.”
He continued: “So whether that does swoop back around at some point, I think there’s definitely a sense that we want to play a relationship story with Todd at some point in the near future.
“There have been references to the fact that he’s getting on now. Todd is going to be 40 in January next year, so there’s been the odd reference to ‘still living at home, nearly 40’. I’m definitely interested in what’s next for Todd and I’m assured that there’s stuff to come.”
