Marie Fielding survived the devastating Hollyoaks motorbike crash and actress Rita Simons has revealed what’s in store for her Channel 4 soap character one year later
Hollyoaks star Rita Simons has spoken out about her character’s fate after a shocking revelation that Marie Fielding is still alive.
The drama unfolded during the soap’s stunt week when Marie was gravely injured as Cleo McQueen, played by Nadie Mulkerrin, crashed a motorbike into the McQueens’ home. Following complications at the hospital, Marie was whisked away for emergency treatment.
Her son Abe Fielding, portrayed by Tyler Conti, ominously informed his girlfriend Cleo that his mother had passed away, blaming her for the tragedy. Since then, no one else in the show has referred to Marie’s supposed demise, and she was notably absent from the soap’s inaugural time-jump episode on Monday (September 16).
In a twist that left viewers stunned, Marie made an unexpected comeback in the episode aired on Tuesday (September 17), now available for streaming on Channel 4. The episode revealed that not only is Marie alive, but she is also oblivious to the fact that her son has deceived Cleo about her death.
Scenes showed Abe dutifully checking on his mother’s attendance at her physiotherapy sessions post-accident, reports the Mirror.
Complications arise when Peri Lomax, played by Ruby O’Donnell and secretly dating Abe, enters the scene. Marie confides in Peri that Abe has accused Cleo of being “controlling” in their relationship, highlighting Abe’s manipulative streak.
While the residents believe Cleo is enjoying a getaway in Bali, the grim reality is that Abe has imprisoned her in his flat behind a reinforced door since the accident that occurred 12 months prior.
While on the red carpet at the National TV Awards, Rita teased fans about what’s in store for her character Marie upon discovering the sinister side of her seemingly perfect son, Abe. She commented: “I don’t think she’ll believe it because he can do no wrong. I do think when she finds out she might spiral but she might have a new man who will support her.”
Tragedy struck as Marie emerged unscathed from a horrendous car crash, while Suzanne Ashworth, played by Suzanne Hall, wasn’t as fortunate, succumbing to her injuries in the arms of her daughter Frankie Osborne, portrayed by Isabelle Smith. The poignant moment arrived just after Suzanne confided in her daughter that she believed her account amid the revelation of Frankies harrowing sexual abuse by her twin brother JJ Osborne, whom Ryan Mulvey plays.
The accident saw Suzanne fatally injured when trapped underneath the bike. JJ was hit hard by the news in hospital during an already tumultuous period for the family. Meanwhile, Abe has deceitfully convinced Cleo that he is holding her captive for her protection, alluding that the neighbours still harbor resentment towards her for instigating the catastrophic accident.
Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 from 7am
