Emmerdale fans are convinced that John Sugden is hiding something about Nate Robinson’s exit from the village – with some even suggesting that the character could be dead
Soap enthusiasts are abuzz with speculation following a recent Emmerdale twist. The suspense was high as Thursday, 12 September’s episode wrapped up without even a whisper of a goodbye for Nate Robinson, played by Jurell Carter, sparking rumours that his enigmatic departure might tie into the explosive barn fire storyline.
In a gripping hour filled with drama, viewers discovered that Ruby Milligan, portrayed by Beth Cordingly, and Moira Barton, played by Natalie J Robb, had astonishingly survived the inferno. Meanwhile, Mackenzie Boyd, actor Lawrence Robb, and the enigmatic John Sugden, played by Oliver Farnworth, came out unharmed after their heroic rescue attempt. Cain Dingle and Will Taylor also skirted disaster, narrowly avoiding peril.
Yet, it’s the newcomer John who’s raising suspicions among fans, who suspect he might be hiding something despite revealing his background as an army medic, reports Leeds Live. Tracy Metcalfe’s (Amy Walsh) interaction with John in the village intensified the mystery.
When Tracy detected the smell of smoke, John eerily revealed: “There was a fire at the farm.” Her concern grew as she probed about the extent of the fire, and John ominously replied: “Pretty much as bad as it gets.”
Anxiety increased as she pressed for details on who was involved in the calamity and their conditions. “Moira, Ruby, and Will were taken to hospital,” John conceded, but when pushed for details on their condition, he grimly admitted: “I don’t know. They weren’t in a good way, it didn’t look good.”
The conversation quickly shifted to Nate’s whereabouts, with John revealing that he was not present during the incident. He disclosed: “He wasn’t there, he left before it happened, he mentioned Shetland.” Tracy, clearly surprised, responded: “Yeah, I knew he was going there, I just thought I might have seen him before he took off.”
John ended the exchange apologetically. “I am sorry,” he said, which prompted Tracy to reassure him: “It’s not your fault, is it.”
Emmerdale viewers are deep into theories about John’s involvement in Nate’s abrupt absence. Some fans think Nate might be secretly stowed away in John’s van, while others suggest Nate could have met his end in the barn blaze.
Speculation has run wild on social media, where one fan suggested on a dedicated Facebook page: “I think John is hiding something #Emmerdale.” Questions over John’s past arose too, with a post wondering: “So John was army doctor? #Emmerdale.”
A fellow viewer guessed: “I think Nate is in John’s van because he shut the door quick when Tracy spoke to him.” Echoing this suspicion, another fan observed: “John is hiding something in his van, close the door quickly enough, and wanted to get back his van sharpish.” (sic).
Some have theorised a fake demise, stating: “#Emmerdale Perhaps Nate is gonna fake his death to get away from Tracey.” And there’s no shortage of gloomy predictions, as other enthusiasts shared: “Telling u Nate was caught in that fire. He’s going to be found dead #emmerdale.” One fan tweeted: “Nate is 100% dead #emmerdale”.
