EastEnders’ Chrissie reveals devastating baby loss – and major character from the past was the dad

This article contains spoilers for Wednesday’s episode of EastEnders, which is already streaming on BBC iPlayer.

EastEnders aired a twist in Chrissie Watts’ (Tracy-Ann Oberman) return storyline on Wednesday, as it was revealed she was actually pregnant when she was sent to prison 19 years ago.

The murderer was jailed for killing her husband Den Watts (Leslie Grantham) back in 2005, with his daughter Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) fundamental in stopping her attempt to evade justice by fleeing the country with partner Jake Moon (Joel Beckett).

The two women have since been brought face-to-face, with Sharon serving a week’s sentence for contempt of court in the same prison as her father’s killer.

Chrissie has shown she is out to get Sharon, with Tuesday’s episode ending with a terrifying cliffhanger for the Walford icon, as Chrissie threatened her with a knife.

As the action picked back up on Wednesday, the BBC soap explored why Chrissie is so hellbent on revenge.

She revealed how she’d been pregnant with Jake’s baby when she was arrested, but sadly lost the baby two weeks later after she was jailed.

Blaming Sharon for the miscarriage and ruining her life, she told of how she’s planned to tell Jake and fight the murder charge in the hope of getting a lighter sentence and reuniting with him and their baby upon her release.

As Sharon reflected on the deaths of husband Dennis Rickman (Nigel Harman) and their son Denny (Bleu Landau), she sympathised with Chrissie – but it was a case of too little, too late, with Chrissie attempting to pour boiling water over her before pulling out a knife.

Luckily for Sharon, Chrissie’s attack was interrupted by the prison guards, who later encouraged her to tell the governor about what happened and dash Chrissie’s hopes of parole.

However, Chrissie soon got wind of Sharon’s appointment with the governor and issued her with another chilling threat, telling her former stepdaughter she’d ‘hate for the governor to hear what she got up to last Christmas’.

Earlier in the week, Sharon had alluded to the events surrounding Keanu Taylor’s (Danny Walters) death, and told Chrissie that her partner had been violent and her best friend stepped in to protect her.

With the case set to be reopened following Dean Wicks’ (Matt Di Angelo) mistrial, will Chrissie actually be the one who brings down The Six?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and from 6am on iPlayer.
