Coronation Street’s Jane Hazlegrove declares love for co-stars as she’s left ‘crying’

The Bernie Winter actress was left ‘crying’ watching the show’s latest episode which included a tragic exit

Coronation Street star Jane Hazlegrove has declared her love for two of her co-stars after she was left ‘crying’ watching the show’s latest episode which included a tragic exit.

There were gut-wrenching scenes in the ITV soap on Monday night (September 9) as 17 months after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease Paul Foreman, played by Peter Ash, tragically died.

Jane’s character Bernie Winter and Summer Spellman called for help as Paul struggled to breathe while Billy Mayhew was out desperately looking for his lost phone.

Back at the hospital, doctors informed Paul’s family there was nothing more they could do but make him comfortable. Soon after, Bernie, Summer and Paul’s sister Gemma Winter-Brown headed in to say their emotional goodbyes to Paul with Billy still trying to make it to the hospital in time.

But in a tragic turn of events, Billy didn’t make it to the hospital in time to fulfil his promise of being by Paul’s side when the time came, thinking he’d only managed to say he loved him one last time over the phone.

However, as viewers know, Paul had already passed as Summer Spellman got Billy, who was running to the hospital after getting trapped in traffic in Frescho’s car park, on the phone. Paul’s mum Bernie encouraged Billy to say what he needed to Paul while Summer and Gemma watched on in tears.

As the dust settled on the emotional scenes, Jane took to social media on Tuesday (September 10) and shared a picture of herself with her on-screen children Peter and Dolly-Rose Campbell, who plays Gemma.

Bernie, Summer and Gemma were with Paul as he passed

Alongside the smiling picture of the trio during location filming for Paul and Billy’s wedding last year as they sported bright red coats, the soap star shared on Instagram: “Gemini, Apollo and Bernadine… a happy day! Love my screen kids! Very proud Corrie Mama! @dolly_rose_campbell @peterash_85.”

And it didn’t take long for fans to respond as they heaped Jane with praise for her Corrie performance. @simy_jc said: “You were just brilliant in last night’s episode. Bernie giving Billy that moment with Paul even though he had passed was poignantly done. You should all be so proud of yourselves.”

@angelahughes48 commented: “It’s such a shame Paul has gone. You are a lovely family. Fantastic show last night. You were all brilliant.” @bhavitamahajan49 wrote: “All of you guys were absolutely brilliant last night. Extremely moving and it really touched my heart. Will definitely miss seeing Peter and you all together.”

@skb_m_1 replied: “You were outstanding in last nights episode @jane_hazlegrove. I cried with you.” @saramays76 added: “You’re all such fantastic characters. I love people like you! The way you’ve all been throughout this storyline has been so believable and so brilliant. You definitely deserve to win awards for this.”

Meanwhile, Jane admitted the scenes were emotional to watch for her too. Responding to an exit post from Peter as he bowed out of Corrie after six years, she shared: “I’m crying!! You made me cry again Peter!! What a performance sweetheart.. you are a joy to work with.. an absolute pleasure to see everyday! No ego! Sleeves up.. in you go! And what a legacy ! You have given such care to this #MND story! Be proud kid! Cos we are!
