EastEnders viewers are convinced they’ve rumbled a 40th anniversary voting twist with a link to Ruby Allen’s dramatic return ‘exposed’
EastEnders fans believe they’ve figured out a major 40th anniversary surprise involving Ruby Allen.
Next February will see the beloved BBC One soap hit a historic milestone of 40 years and it has planned a special live episode where fans will get a say in one couple’s fate. In a novel interactive twist, viewers will vote on the outcome of a romantic storyline, putting the pressure on the cast and crew to go along with the audience’s choice.
Details remain under wraps but that hasn’t prevented devoted fans from speculating wildly on social media platforms. Just last week, it was revealed that Louisa Lytton is set to reprise her role of Ruby Allen ahead of the 40th anniversary.
And now a buzz has started among the Reddit community, where fans are surmising that Ruby’s comeback is geared towards the live voting event. Viewers have suggested that a love triangle featuring Martin Fowler, Stacey Slater and Ruby is set to be at the heart of the interactive episode, leaving it to fans to decide Martin’s romantic destiny.
One person said: “I have to think the 40th anniversary is going to centre on Ruby”, another fan predicted: “It will probably be about Martin’s loves – Sonia, Stacey, Ruby because of the 40th coinciding with his birthday” while another added: “I’ve thought that Ruby’s return stint could be leading to Martin’s exit. It could be something like the viewer deciding whether Martin reunites with her and leaves to be with her and their child or if he decides to reject Ruby and goes to stay with Bex”, reports the Daily Star.
Elsewhere, one soap watcher said: “I would love it to be Alfie and Kat, Phil and Sharon, or Stacey/Ruby/Martin!” while another added: “I wonder if this is to do with Martin getting back with either Ruby or Stacey, I’d hate if he got back with Ruby, but then again I don’t think people would vote for her over Stacey anyways.”
The buzz follows the announcement of an exciting development from the soap’s producers on Monday. Chris Clenshaw, Executive Producer, spoke about the upcoming live episode in celebration of the show’s 40th anniversary, saying: “The 40th anniversary is a milestone event for EastEnders, and we have been planning this week for a long time to ensure that it’s a week full of drama and surprises.”
He added: “In fact, as our regular audience will know, we have already seen the return of familiar faces and have many more nods to our history to come which will all build up to our momentous anniversary week. This time, as well as going live, we are adding an extra twist and for the very first time in the history of the show and as a gift to the viewers, we are giving the audience the power to have their say in choosing the outcome of one of our storylines. Whilst we’re still keeping the finite details of the 40th close to our chest, I can promise that it will be an unmissable week full of shocking twists that will change Albert Square, and the lives of those who live in it, forever.”
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
