Coronation Street star ‘broken’ as cast react to Paul Foreman tragic death twist

Those who star in the ITV soap were sharing their reactions as well as they praise for co-star Peter Ash as he bowed out of the show

Coronation Street star Jane Danson said she was left ‘broken’ by Paul Foreman’s death as the cast of the ITV soap spoke out following the emotional scenes.

Those who star in the long-running show were sharing their reactions as well as praise for co-star Peter Ash as he bowed out of the programme after six year.

Paul, who was first introduced to viewers as David Platt’s cellmate before later making his way to Weatherfield to look for his twin Gemma Winter, was tragically diagnosed with MND in April 2023.

Fans were then left in tears on Monday night (September 9) as they finally said goodbye to Paul as he died following the diagnosis of the life-limiting illness, that affects more than 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time and for which there is currently no cure.

In the episode, Paul was rushed to hospital as he struggled to breathe and later, after doctors informed his family there was nothing more they could do but make him comfortable, Paul took his last breath.

But in a heartbreaking twist, Billy was unable to say goodbye after a series of events, that started with him looking for his lost phone, delayed his efforts to get there.

It was Bernie, Gemma and Summer who were all by Paul’s side and during Paul’s final moments, they tried to get Billy, who was running to the hospital after getting trapped in traffic in Frescho’s car park, on the phone, with him believing he had spoken to Paul. However, Paul had already passed.

Later, when Billy arrived, he was heartbroken to see a doctor confirming Paul was gone before bursting into the room and taking his husband in his arms for one last time.

Following the episode, stars of Corrie took to social media to heap praise on the cast involved in the tear-jerking scenes. Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy, told Peter: “You’ve played a blinder my friend. You have no idea how much you’re missed,” while Summer star Harriet Bibby simply said: “Love you, Pete.”

Cait Fitton, who plays Lauren Bolton, commented: “We are all so proud of you and everyone involved! Delivered with so much care, honesty and truthfulness! We miss you Pete.” Cassie Plummer star Claire Sweeney shared: “It’s was so moving and you have been fabulous as is everyone involved in the storyline, writers crew and everyone.”

Leanne Battersby actress Jane Danson shared: “I’m still crying. Such beautiful performances from all of you . I’m in bits,” before saying on another post: ” I’m broken.” Georgia Taylor, who stars as Toyah Habeeb, posted: “Stunning work from you all love. You should be so proud.” Kit Green star Jacob Roberts wrote on Instagram: “Pleasure to work with you @peterash_85. You did an amazing job with this storyline.” Channique Sterling-Brown, who plays Dee-Dee Bailey, added: “The love and care that has been poured into this story has been incredible, whilst raising awareness for @mndassoc. We are so proud of you all.”
