Some fans of the ITV soap can’t handle the moment they’ve described as ‘evil’
Coronation Street fans have said they have been left ‘destroyed’ by Paul Foreman’s death and that they’ll ‘never forgive’ one moment of his passing.
There were heart-wrenching scenes in the ITV soap as, 17 months after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, Paul passed away. The former builder was told he had the life-limiting disease in April 2023 and has been seen grappling with the deterioration of his health while also trying to make the most of the time he had with his loved ones.
But during Monday night’s (September 9) Corrie, Paul was rushed to hospital as he struggled to breathe and later, after doctors informed his family there was nothing more they could do but make him comfortable, Paul took his last breath in tragic circumstances.
In a heartbreaking twist, Billy was unable to say goodbye after a series of events delayed his efforts to get there. It was Bernie, Gemma and Summer who were all by Paul’s side and during Paul’s final moments, they tried to get Billy, who was running to the hospital after getting trapped in traffic in Frescho’s car park, on the phone, with him believing he had spoken to Paul.
However, the trio of women weren’t honest as Paul had already passed. Later, when Billy arrived, he was heartbroken to see a doctor confirming Paul was gone before bursting into the room and taking his husband in his arms for one last time.
But Corrie fans have shared their upset at Billy not making it to Paul in time. @bridiemia_ said: “#Corrie has absolutely destroyed me. Nothing but evil decisions in that writers’ room choosing to end Paul’s story without Billy!!” @chelseaxl96 cried: “I will never forgive corrie for not letting Billy and Paul have a proper goodbye. #corrie.”
@djjamesball posted: “Billy missing Paul’s passing was completely unnecessary by #corrie absolutely no need!” @corriedalexo shouted: “BILLY RUNNING AND BEING TOO LATE NOOOO THAT WAS EVIL #corrie.” @catchapman73 commented: “#Corrie not happy Corrie. You could have let Billy say goodbye. I am a mess. Very sad episode.” @serenaax12 added: “Awe man i wish billy could have said goodbye. My heart was in my mouth the whole time #Corrie.”
Others, however, felt it portrayed the devastating reality for some. @Aoifs123 said: “Billy not being able to say goodbye was heartbreaking. So many people never get to say goodbye to their loved ones. Life is cruel. Absolutely heartbreaking closing scenes #corrie.”
@ElloTeenah shared: “The writing for Paul’s ending portrayed everything in real life. The ambulance taking its time. Paul was always going to go without Billy by his side and Billy knew that. Makes you want to believe in a higher power. Peter Ash, well done. #Corrie.” @DameLilySavage added: “Well done @itvcorrie that was heartbreaking! The choice for Billy to not be there was an unusual one but great performances. They have really done this story well from start to finish #Corrie.”
