EastEnders regular ‘really shocked and deeply hurt’ over best friend’s betrayal

Clay Milner Russell has opened up about Bobby Beale’s latest heartbreak as he catches Anna Knight sharing a kiss with Freddie Slater in dramatic EastEnders scenes

EastEnders star Clay Milner Russell has revealed that Bobby Beale is left “really shocked and deeply hurt” as he watches best friend Freddie Slater share a kiss with Anna Knight next week.

It all kicks off in Walford next week as Anna (Molly Rainford) decides to have an abortion behind boyfriend Bobby’s back. However, while hanging out with Anna and Bobby, Freddie uses her laptop and sees details of the clinic.

Freddie keeps quiet and when Anna finds him later, she begs him to keep her secret – admitting she’s having an abortion and Bobby can never know. Anna is determined to head to the clinic alone, and brushes off Bobby when he invites her out.

She talks through her options and decides to have an abortion. She’s touched to find Freddie in the waiting room who takes Anna back to The Vic and they share an emotional moment and end up kissing, unaware that Bobby has walked in.

Opening up about his upcoming story as Bobby, actor Clay explained: “Bobby is really shocked and deeply hurt. He feels stupid for not seeing this coming and assumes the worst and that Freddie and Anna have been carrying on behind his back for months. So, he’s really angry with them and feels stupid and embarrassed that this has happened to him again.

“Obviously, Freddie and Anna had a fling before, but I don’t think Bobby is suspicious that it might happen again. He’s very trusting and wants the three of them to spend lots of time together in this little friendship group.

“Maybe because of that, he hasn’t seen what’s going on and he doesn’t believe that Freddie would do something like that again. If anything, what’s going on in Bobby’s mind is that he doesn’t deserve to be with someone like Anna. “

Freddie rushes after Bobby, who accuses him of getting Anna pregnant. As Martin Fowler (James Bye) restrains Bobby, Anna arrives and insists this is not what he thinks. As Bobby and Anna storm into the Beale house mid-argument, all hell breaks loose.

Bobby later turns to dad Ian Beale (Adam Woodyat) for advice. Clay added: “Bobby and Ian’s relationship has taken a turn for the better, even though Cindy [Beale] being in the house is pretty problematic. However, Ian seems to have properly let go of what happened with Lucy [Beale] and doesn’t blame Bobby anymore.

He just wants to support his son and be a good father. Given what Ian has been through with his relationships, he can probably give Bobby some good advice.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
