Amid struggles with his mobility, Ken Barlow allowed Cassie Plummer to be his carer but due to his recent windfall, Corrie viewers think she may have sickening intentions.
Ken Barlow agreed to help Amy Barlow after the teen was scammed by Rowan Cunliffe out of a staggering inheritance – but could Cassie Plummer throw everything into chaos to get the cash?
The troublemaker portrayed by Claire Sweeney was hired by Ken Barlow (William Roache) earlier this year and has been caring for the Coronation Street veteran ever since, remaining present at No.1 and tending to his every need.
However, this Monday, September 9, Ken admitted his guilt over Amy Barlow’s (Elle Mulvaney) situation as she was manipulated into giving her inheritance from grandmother Deirdre to Rowan and his Institute.
Knowing he had the funds to replace the inheritance with his recent £50k premium bond win, Ken said he was considering giving Amy the cash, leaving ITV viewers to think Cassie may have a trick up her sleeve.
Fans of the Manchester-based programme took to Twitter, now X, as they began to suspect Cassie may “con” Ken with one writing: “Let’s hope Cassie doesn’t con Ken!” Another joked: “#corrie Cassie tearfully to Ken ‘I need a life-saving operation but they only do these in the USA & it costs £50k – I guess I’ll just have to have my life cut short, unlike you, Ken, I wish I could have lived as long as you have.'”
A third chimed in: “Cassie definitely going to rip both Amy & Ken out of his money.” Another jumped in: “#Corrie Cassie not wanting Ken to give Amy his premium bond win. I wonder why?!”, just as a fifth agreed: “#Corrie Cassie didn’t want Ken to spend money on Amy!” One final fan quipped: “I think they should get Cassie to sign up to the Institute – then she can scam them instead of Ken #Corrie”
But amid theories she could betray Ken and Amy, Cassie could also be set for romance with Corrie stalwart Steve McDonald. In June 2024, actor Simon Gregson teased an upcoming relationship between the characters during an appearance on This Morning.
“There’s a little bit of a spark with Cassie, she comes on the scene obviously, that’s on our screens at the moment. There’s definitely a spark there,” Simon said about his character’s blossoming bond with the daughter of no-nonsense Evelyn Plummer.
“She’s troubled, she’s got a glint in her eye and Steve likes that, they’re quite similar in ways. What happens there? Who knows! You’ll have to keep watching,” he added. But could Cassie throw it all away?
