Coronation Street Rowan star says ‘she remembered me’ as This Morning appearance uncovers link to hit show

Actor Emrhys Cooper was on the daytime show to chat about his cobbles storyline as Institute mentor Rowan Cunliffe

Coronation Street star Emrhys Cooper has revealed his link to Cat Deeley after he appeared on This Morning. The actor was on the daytime show to chat about his cobbles storyline as Institute mentor Rowan Cunliffe.

As fans of the ITV soap know, Emrhys first appeared in Weatherfield as Rowan back in March and quickly caught the attention of Leanne Battersby when she accompanied Simon Barlow to one of his seminars at the Chariot Square Hotel.

Leanne was taken aback when the group mentor approached her and offered her some unsolicited advice as she dealt with Simon’s drink-driving and her partner Nick Tilsley’s reaction.

But since then, Corrie fans have watched as Leanne has become further involved in The Institue, with her progressing through different ‘levels’ and wanting to invest in a new resource centre which likely doesn’t actually exist.

Speaking to Cat and Ben Shephard on This Morning on Wednesday (September 4), Emrhys spoke in defence of his character’s actions, saying: “I think he [Rowan] went through a lot, and struggled with a lot of issues in his twenties, and discovered the The Institute….

“And it did save his life so he’s been essentially brainwashed. But I like to think there’s some good in old Rowan, that he does want to help folks, but yeah, hes chasing that cash.”

Following his appearance on the famous sofa, Emrhys took to Instagram with snaps of himself, Cat and Ben as well as This Morning’s soap expert Sharon Marshall. There was also a sweet selfie of himself and Cat as he revealed that they have previously met.

Before arriving on Corrie, the actor, singer, dancer, and filmmaker starred as the male lead role in the Emmy nominated StyleHaul Drama Series Vanity in which he stars alongside Denise Richards and Karrueche Tran.

He has appeared in films such as Mamma Mia, the romantic comedy Walk a Mile in My Pradas (2011), the indie drama Till We Meet Again, the horror film Dreamcatcher, and his award-winning directorial debut The Shuroo Process.

It was in 2008 when he moved to Los Angeles that he quickly started working on many of the US’s biggest shows including Desperate Housewives, CSI:NY, Touch and Blackish. His varied career has also seen him work with artists including Madonna, Christina Aguilera and Pussycat Dolls, having previously worked as a dancer.

And it was actually on the iconic Stars in Their Eyes that Ermhys and Cat met as she was presenting celebrity special of the programme in 2006 while he was one of the contestants.

Captioning his Instagram post, Emrhys wrote: “What an exciting morning I had. Sat on the couch with these three legends talking Rowan and all things Corrie. Also a reunion with @catdeeley! A real treat… we worked together on Stars in their eyes way back when… she even remembered me awe. What a sweetheart. Thanks to all the team @thismorning, @londonflairpr & @coronationstreet #thismorning.”
