Jamie Borthwick was spotted showing off his dance moves for the camera as he filmed a Strictly Come Dancing segment in a market in London ahead of the 2024 series
Jamie Borthwick, known for his role as Jay Brown on EastEnders, was spotted filming for Strictly Come Dancing at a market in London. The scene featured the Strictly crew setting up a vibrant, sparkly purple backdrop, creating a lively and colourful atmosphere.
Jamie was seen showing off some of his dance moves for the camera, blending the iconic East End setting with the glitz and glamour of Strictly Come Dancing.
The show confirmed Jamie as the tenth celebrity to join the 2024 line-up, joining the likes of Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri, TOWIE’s Pete Wicks, JLS star JB Gill, Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans, eighties icon Toyah Willcox, Morning Live’s Dr Punam Krishan and comedian Chris McCausland in the battle to lift the prestigious glitterball trophy.
Jamie appeared on Mollie King and Matt Edmondon’s BBC Radio 1 to share the exciting news on Thursday (August 8), alongside olympian Tom Dean MBE. Actor Jamie said: “I had a ball doing the Strictly Christmas special last year, so when I was asked to join for this series it was the easiest yes! This is a fresh challenge and it will be so different to be learning a new dance every week and for the public to have their say.
“I’m hoping to be Salsa-ing around Albert Square in no time and I’ll be asking my Walford Strictly alumni for some words of wisdom. See you on the dancefloor!”
This comes after the news of the start date was revealed as fans are already able to buy tickets for the live shows as early as next month.
Audiences are already being booked for the first live show on Saturday September 21 as Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman introduce a host of new celebrity couples to the dance floor.
Tickets to see Strictly are among the hardest to secure in TV, but dates are now available for September, 21 and 28, October, 5, 12, 19, 26, November, 2, 9, 23, 30 and December 7 and 14.
Bosses on the show will hope the return of the action will take a spotlight away from issues that have dogged the show amid a long-running investigation into alleged mistreatment of celebrity contestants.
The BBC has spent three months investigating allegations made by Amanda Abbington about Giovanni Pernice’s behaviour during rehearsals. Italian professional dancer Giovanni has rejected allegations of “threatening or abusive behaviour” made by Sherlock actress Amanda, who was partnered with him in 2023 before he left the show. Despite the lengthy investigation, the report’s conclusions are still being kept under wraps.
