A Summer Bay family member is coming back.
Home and Away has confirmed an upcoming character return for Felicity Newman’s emotional funeral, as her devastated brother Cash plans her final send-off.
Australian viewers saw Felicity suffer a shock collapse last week, as she passed out while enjoying Cash and Eden Fowler’s engagement party.
TV Week has now reported that Felicity and Cash’s foster father, Gary Morrow, will make a return to Summer Bay to honour Felicity after she sadly loses her life in upcoming scenes after suffering a brain aneurysm.
When Cash and Felicity’s ex-husband Tane Parata are told by doctor Bree Cameron that it’s unlikely Felicity will regain consciousness, they are faced with the enormous dilemma of whether to switch off her life support.
While the pair are initially torn, Cash experiences a breakthrough when Bree asks him whether Felicity had considered donating her organs after her death. As Cash realises that turning off his sister’s life support machine could give other people a chance to live, he makes his decision.
As Felicity passes away peacefully beside her loved ones, she receives a guard of honour as she is wheeled down the hospital corridor to the operating theatre for organ donation surgery.
Later in the week, grieving Cash plans his sister’s funeral, announcing that he wants only family members to attend the ceremony.
“I don’t think Cash has quite processed everything, and a big funeral would just be too much,” Nicholas Cartwright, who plays Cash, explained, adding that he doesn’t think his character “will ever really move on from this”.
With Felicity’s friends and neighbours excluded from her funeral, they begin to find their own ways to honour Felicity’s memory. While Justin Morgan and Mackenzie Booth plan a ‘Festival of Felicity’, Tane performs a moving Māori haka.
Meanwhile, at the family ceremony, Gary returns to Summer Bay over a year after his last visit to his foster children. He and Cash carry Felicity to her final resting place, while Eden is there to support them.
How will Cash cope with the loss of his beloved sister?
