EastEnders fans gobsmacked as they finally realise where they’ve seen evil Reiss actor before

Jonny Freeman joined the cast of EastEnders as evil Reiss Colwell in 2022, but many soap fans were quick to recognise him from a very different role on children’s television

EastEnders fans have finally realised where they recognise Reiss Colwell star Jonny Freeman from. The actor joined the cast of EastEnders back in 2022 as evil Reiss, who is now at the centre of a scandalous storyline on the soap.

In a bid to get out of debt, Reiss killed his comatose wife Debbie in chilling scenes. He and girlfriend Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) are expecting their first child together, but Sonia is none the wise to Reiss’ shady ways.

With viewers seeing more of Reiss over recent months, many have begun wondering where they recognise actor Jonny from. Prior to joining the BBC soap, Jonny starred in shows such as Silent Witness and Holby City.

The actor previously starred in Doctors

However, it is his former role in M.I.High that many fans recognise him from. The actor portrayed Frank London in the CBBC teen show, which aired from 2007 until 2011.

Taking to Reddit, one fan said: “Finally, people agree! I mean jesus christ Jonny Freeman, you were so much better back in your MI High days as Frank.” Another agreed, saying: “Omg I did not know he was Frank?! Insane.”

Jonny has also starred in Dalziel & Pascoe, Doctors and Love Soup. He previously appeared in TV adverts for companies such as Domino’s Pizza, Ford and Trebor Mints.

However, his big break came in 2022 when he landed the role of Reiss – Dot Cotton’s great-nephew – in EastEnders. The character soon became a regular and sparked up a romance with Sonia, which has been full of drama. Reiss now appears to have transformed into Walford’s newest villain, after murdering his wife and attempting to scam several residents out of money, including Sharon Watts and Phil Mitchell.

While Reiss’ situation is unarguably difficult, he has continued to make some very questionable decisions. Actor Jonny spoke about his character’s “dark side” coming out, revealing Reiss’ circumstances heavily impact his decisions.

Jonny looks worlds away from Reiss off-screen

Speaking to RadioTimes.com, he said: “Rather than the darker side of Reiss, it’s the same character but obviously the circumstances have changed and he’s perhaps making mistakes to get out of them. Like anyone under huge pressure, one mistake is made and it can start to unravel, so I think that’s what we’re seeing with Reiss. Rather than a darker side, I think the essence of the character is the same but the circumstances are getting a bit more complicated.”
