Coronation Street bosses are said to have lined up a former soap star to return to the cobbles in a shock new twist for Gail Platt’s exit storyline as Helen Worth prepares to say goodbye
Coronation Street bosses seem to be shaking things up on the cobbles as they’ve reportedly roped in a familiar face to fill the gap left by Martin Platt’s absence in Gail Platt’s epic exit plot.
Fans were all delighted when it was first revealed that Sean Wilson would return as Martin to give Helen Worth’s goodbye from the ITV soap the recognition it deserved, marking her 50-year stint.
Over the past weekend, it was revealed that Sean dipped out of his Corrie comeback for “personal reasons”, putting a pin in Martin’s curtain call with Gail.
Now, the rumour mill’s spinning wild about how Gail will bid farewell to Weatherfield and it looks like John Thomson is tipped to pop back as Jesse Chadwick, his last appearance being a good decade ago.
Spilling the beans on Good Morning Britain, Richard Arnold dished the dirt about John potentially swooping in for Gail’s swan song: “It has been reported that John Thomson, who played Jesse Chadwick back in 2008, will be riding back on the street for Gail’s exit storyline so it could be a chance for her to grapple with Eileen again. Eileen and Gail’s feud, of course, is legendary.”, reports the Express.
“I saw Sue [Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw] last week actually for dinner again but she’s very excited about John coming back and stuff and the prospect of a feud between the two girls again. Stay tuned for more Corrie news in the future when we have it.”
Jesse’s comeback to the cobbles is set to give Gail Platt a chance for one last laugh at her nemesis Eileen Grimshaw’s expense – who previously dated Jesse – before she bids farewell later this year. Coronation Street have been approached for a comment.
This follows John’s earlier vow that he’d never trot back to the cobbles, as he declared: “I don’t want to be known as Jesse Chadwick, children’s entertainer, for the rest of my life.”
Speaking to the beans to Metro in 2012, he said: “I’ve been fortunate. I’ve had a varied career and like popping in and out of things. I was in it for ten months and felt I’d run my course.”
Soap fans will be on tenterhooks to see if Jesse makes his way back to Weatherfield and just how Gail will make her exit after an epic five decades on the show.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
