Sean Wilson’s Coronation Street exit takes huge new turn as ‘lawyers involved’

Coronation Street star Sean Wilson has reportedly brought in a lawyer after the show’s bosses decided to cut his character from the ITV soap

Sean Wilson’s feud with the Coronation Street bosses has taken a major turn, with reports revealing the star brought in lawyers to deal with his case.

This comes after Sean was said to have had a falling out with the show’s bosses, claiming they were “rude” to him after returning to the show. He recently came back to the ITV soap and apparently had a tense meeting with the team on set.

His sudden exit surprised his co-stars, and while there was some mystery around why he left, the bosses later said it was for personal reasons. Sources say Wilson, 59, was disappointed about not being included in Gail’s big exit storyline and has now “instructed” lawyers after being suddenly cut from the show.

It was also reported that actress Helen Worth, 73, was excited for Sean, who played Gail’s ex-husband Martin, to return to the show.

A source told The Sun on Sunday: “Never before has a departure been so sudden or secretive. He went to the boss’s office and didn’t return. It has been a huge shock to everybody. And it is so sad after all these years that he isn’t going to be in Helen’s final scenes — it is something that she really wanted to happen.” The outlet also said that “lawyers are involved”. An ITV spokesperson said: “Sean Wilson has stepped down from filming for personal reasons.”

Sean first stepped into the role of Martin on Coronation Street in 1985, where his character became known for his tumultuous relationship with Gail. He eventually left the soap in 2005 to pursue a new challenge, training as a chef and later winning awards with his Saddleworth Cheese Company.

Sean returned to Corrie in 2018 for a brief stint, where his character said goodbye to his son David before moving to New Zealand. Gail and Martin were married for ten years on the show, and although their marriage ended due to his affair, it remains one of her most memorable relationships.

Earlier last month, it was revealed that Gail Platt will get a ‘happy ending’ as actress Helen Worth announced her departure to fans. The iconic character, played by 73-year-old Helen, is set to leave the ITV soap this year after being a prominent figure since her debut in 1974.

Executive producer Iain MacLeod commented: “Gail won’t die. It didn’t feel like killing her off would be right. Gail’s exit is a brilliant story. I thought, ‘What do the viewers want to see?.”

“Gail has had a hard life. She had a difficult childhood and she disastrous marriages. So, we though what viewers really want is a happy ending for her, so that what we’re doing.”
