Coronation Street fans are convinced a beloved character is about to be killed off after the beloved resident made a sinister vow in a previous episode of the soap
Coronation Street has dropped a major hint that a fan-favourite character could meet a tragic end.
Earlier this year, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) made her return to the cobbles as part of the investigation into Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) mysterious disappearance. Fans will recall that Lauren disappeared from Weatherfield earlier this year and was presumed dead.
However, in a shocking twist, Lauren recently resurfaced, and it was revealed that sinister lawyer Joel Deering (Calum Lill) was behind her disappearance. Joel wormed his way into Lauren’s life by helping her with bills, eventually coercing her into a sexual relationship.
After a heated argument where Lauren mentioned his fiancee Dee-Dee Bailey’s (Channique Sterling-Brown) name, he left her for dead after brutally attacking her.
Adding to the drama, he is the father of her newborn baby and recently tried to kill her by drugging her in an attempt to murder the baby. His terrifying plan failed, however, as she went into labour early and the baby survived, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Meanwhile, Joel finds himself being blackmailed by newcomer Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin), the daughter of DS Lisa Swain. Betsy has been blackmailing Joel for several weeks after noticing his disturbing behaviour towards her friend Sabrina.
However, last week, Joel lost his temper and dragged Betsy into the ginnel before threatening her. Fans watched Betsy spill the beans to her copper mum, Lisa, who questioned him.
Though it looked like Joel had managed to charm his way out of a tight spot, Lisa’s face told viewers she wasn’t buying his story. But it’s a spine-chilling hint from a past episode that’s worried fans.
The cop’s vow to “take a bullet” for her daughter has viewers fearing she’ll be shot dead in a future episode. Fans have taken to X (the site formerly known as Twitter) to speculate.
“‘I’d take a bullet for her’ Really DS Swain? Let’s just hope this isn’t #Corrie totally foreshadowing for his eventual exit story…” one fan wrote.
Another soap sleuth pleaded: “Please don’t let that bullet be fatal for DI Swain. Seems like this storyline is getting toward the climax.” (sic)
A third fan questioned: “‘I would take a bullet for my daughter’ Is that some foreshadowing for Swain in upcoming scenes? Will Joel have a gun held against her daughter Betsy?” (sic)
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
