Following the reports that Coronation Street’s Martin Platt actor Sean Wilson has ‘stepped down’ amid a planned return for Gail Platt’s exit, fans now think they know how Helen Worth will leave
Viewers of Coronation Street have shared their “fears”, believing they’ve worked out Gail Platt’s “rewritten” exit storyline after Martin Platt actor Sean Wilson’s departure.
Just weeks ago it was revealed Sean would be reprising his role for the departure of Gail actress Helen Worth, who has quit after 50 years. But now it’s said the storyline has had to be redone with actor Sean “stepping down for personal reasons”.
Viewers have been left gutted by the news, while in the past actor Sean has talked of bosses being “rude” to him before he made the decision to return. Now, fans are worried they have worked out a sad exit for Gail, and that she could be killed off.
Taking to social media, fans feared that the abrupt changes could mean bosses wanted a sadder exit for Gail, or that bosses may be forced to make this the case now that filming is “in chaos”. Viewers are now pleading with bosses not to kill off Gail, fearing this is on the cards.
One fan wrote: “Omg… sounds like maybe Helen has gone to the bosses and said that she doesn’t want to leave this way anymore and now this scares me she’s decided she wants Gail to be killed off instead. I’m actually scared.”
Another fan said: “Dear #Corrie producers…. whatever you do, DO NOT kill off Gail Platt.” A third fan wrote: “I swear if Gail gets killed off,” as a fourth said: “Gail best not be getting killed off.”

Sean, who first appeared in the show in 1985, was due to reprise his role later this year as part of Gail’s final storyline this Christmas, when Helen steps down from the ITV soap after five decades on the Cobbles. Martin was originally due to return to help bid farewell to Gail, but that will now not be the case and soap bosses have reportedly rushed to rewrite the exit storyline.
Coronation Street have now confirmed Sean will not appear as Martin in the soap later in the year. In a statement, a spokesperson for Coronation Street told The Mirror: “Sean Wilson has stepped down from filming for personal reasons.”
It has been claimed that Helen is gutted that Sean won’t be part of her exit storyline, with a source claiming: “It has come as a complete and utter shock to everyone – and his sudden exit has rocked everyone involved with Corrie.
“Sean was loving his time on the show, and he was very popular on set. He had filmed scenes with loads of the cast, but then suddenly he was summoned to head office, and later it filtered out he wouldn’t be returning or his scenes airing, but no explanation offered.”
The insider added to The Sun: “Clearly it’s a major blow for bosses who must now find a new magical and happy ending for Helen – but they are confident they’ll pull it out of the bag, and give viewers something wonderful.”
