Actor Dominic Brunt has played vet Paddy Kirk in the ITV soap since 1997
Dominic Brunt has said that he finds it “incredible” that he has been in Emmerdale for 27 years and recalls the conversation he has ‘constantly’ with his co-star Mark Charnock.
The 54-year-old actor has played vet Paddy Kirk in the ITV soap since 1997 and confessed that he has no idea how his life would’ve turned out had he not taken the part.
Asked if he still experiences pinch-me moments after so long on Emmerdale, Dominic told the Metro newspaper’s Sixty Seconds column: “All the time. Me and Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle, talk about that constantly. I was a welder so I don’t know what the alternative was if I hadn’t thought, ‘I’ll give it a go for a few years and see what happens.’
“It’s been brilliant and we still love the job. I never go upstairs and ask what the storylines are, because I like getting the scripts. It never passes me by how lucky I am and what a privilege it is to be in the job. It’s incredible, really.”
Dominic’s alter ego is set to marry first wife Mandy Dingle, played by Lisa Riley, again this week on the soap and says he has never had a “boring day” working with the Bury-born soap star.
He said: “Lisa has been a really good and strong friend for years and it’s lovely to be working with her again. She’s absolutely crackers she drives me insane but in the best possible way! Never a boring day.”
Dominic also shared how he intends to keep playing Paddy for as long as Emmerdale bosses will have him as he also keeps busy away from the Dales by working on horror films with his wife Joanne Mitchell. He explained: “I’ve got my outlet with the stuff I do with Jo that keeps everything fresh.”
“‘Emmerdale’ have made episodes I’ve been thrilled to bits with, so the fact I’m still here 27 years later is ridiculous and I owe them everything. It beats welding and I loved welding. As long as it lasts, I’ll be there and I’ll be grateful for it.”
