While EastEnders fans still have the small matter of the soap’s explosive Christmas Day episodes to look forward to, the action is no less shocking as New Year arrives in Walford.
The stage is set for Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) and Eve Unwin’s (Heather Peace) wedding – but with Suki’s evil ex-husband Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) still on the loose, its not likely to go without its hiccups.
The loved-up couple are looking forward to their happy ever after in the lead-up to their nuptials, which are set to take place on New Year’s Day.
But their fate is left in Nish’s hands as his revenge plot unravels with devastating consequences.
As fans of the BBC soap know, the soap villain staged an armed escape from prison earlier this month after learning the pair’s wedding was back on.
Dying Nish was jailed on Halloween after agreeing to take the rap for Keanu Taylor’s (Danny Walters) murder for The Six, but as part of the deal, he made Suki promise she would not marry Eve while he was still alive.
Since breaking free from custody, he has been in hiding, biding his time to derail their relationship once and for all.
As Suki and Eve prepare for their joint hen do next week, the celebrations are cut short when the police arrive to inform them that there’s been a sighting of Nish in Walford.
While Suki begins to get cold feet about the wedding, it’s not long before she’s talked around – and as the Square gathers for the celebrations, no-one has a clue about the horror that awaits.
‘In true EastEnders, Walford-style, you can expect the Panesars to bring a whole load of high-intensity drama,’ reveals Balvinder Sopal, who plays Suki.
‘There is a huge cloud that is hanging over this happy moment in Suki’s life, and Nish isn’t somebody to let things lie.
‘Nish has the potential to totally rip that from under her feet. Everyone is bracing themselves as Nish has a vendetta…’
EastEnders airs Suki and Eve’s wedding on New Year’s Day at 10pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
