Stephanie has shared the wonderful news that she’s going to be a mom again, announcing that she and her partner Joe McKalroy are expecting a baby in January 2025
Former Coronation Street star Stephanie Davis has revealed she’s pregnant. The actress has confirmed she and her partner Joe McKalroy are expecting their first child together.
Stephanie, who is already mum to seven-year-old son Caben, has said it’s been a ‘rollercoaster’ so far but is praying that the worst is over, so the couple can enjoy the rest of their pregnancy journey from now on.
Stephanie, who recently played Courtney Vance in ITV’s Corrie, and Joe, 27, who met during a group therapy session in 2021, revealed the news exclusively to OK! Magazine and confirmed that they are expecting a boy – a little brother to Caben, who is Stephanie’s son from a previous relationship.
But, as Steph, who is 16 weeks pregnant and due in January, admits, it’s been a tough road. “After my previous miscarriage, I thought, ‘God’s going to be good to us, it’ll be plain sailing.’ But that’s not how life works,” she said with a wry smile before adding: “It’s been… a roller coaster.”
The couple had been trying for a baby for two years and were going down the fertility route, getting tests, when Steph fell pregnant naturally. “I did the pregnancy test at my mother-in-law’s. I could not believe it. I’ve done a million tests over the past two years and videoed them – the one time I didn’t, it was positive!” she said.
But after subsequent blood tests showed her HCG [pregnancy hormone] levels were far too low and not doubling as they should be, Steph was told at a hospital check-up that she was at high risk of miscarriage.
“The doctor said he believed I was having another miscarriage – or an ectopic pregnancy. But I wasn’t having it, I had this strong gut feeling that it was all going to be OK.”
Joe admits that doctors even asked him to have “a word” as she wasn’t “accepting” what was happening. But a couple of days later, Steph was out with Caben to get his hair cut when her phone rang. “It was one of the lovely nurses from the Buchanan Suite in Whiston Hospital. She said, ‘Steph, this is a miracle. Your HCG levels haven’t doubled – they’ve tripled!'”
After a few scary setbacks, Steph and Joe were able to find out their unborn baby’s gender. “Joe and I just wanted it to be the two of us when we found out,” Steph said. “It was so emotional. When the nurse said it was a boy, and the lights in the room went blue… it’s a moment we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.
“Joe never cries, so when he started that set me off. We were just sobbing on each other. Then the nurse in the room started crying, too!”
Caben, meanwhile, discovered he was going to be a big brother in Majorca. Steph recalled: “He was adorable. We took a video, and it’s so cute watching a little seven-year-old process that he’s getting a sibling. He points at me and goes, ‘Is that why you’ve got a lump in your tummy?’ It was just beautiful, the three of us on the beach.”
