EastEnders confirms identity of Linda Carter’s blackmailer – and it’s unexpected

This article contains spoilers for tonight’s EastEnders, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.

Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) has been left rattled in recent EastEnders scenes after receiving a number of poison pen letters from a mystery blackmailer.

The landlady has been on edge ever since stabbing Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) to death on Christmas Day, and has since framed Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) for the crime.

The pressure of sticking to her false statement has been difficult for Linda, and she has very nearly gone back on it several times.

More recently, Linda decided to accept a deal from Dean, who promised that if she took back her statement against him, then he would confess to her rape in 2014.

However, the choice was taken out of Linda’s hands when Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) interrupted her meeting with Dean’s associate to arrest him for blackmail and perverting the course of justice.

In recent scenes, things got even worse when she opened an anonymous letter which claimed the writer knew what she had done on Christmas Day, and calling her a liar.

After receiving several more, Linda finally snapped during a busy lunchtime service in the Vic, shouting at customers demanding to know who was behind the letters.

While Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) tried to calm Linda down, we finally found out who was behind the letters when they paid Dean Wicks a visit in prison.

As Dean insisted that Linda agreeing to take his deal proved that she didn’t care about getting justice for Keanu, and that her outburst in the Vic suggested she had something to hide, we finally found out that Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) was the person behind the letters.

Bernie is desperate to get justice for her brother, and admitted to Dean that she believed he was innocent and would get the truth out of Linda, whatever it takes. Will she succeed?
