BBC EastEnders return ‘sealed’ for Stevie Mitchell with telling clue weeks after soap exit

Stevie Mitchell left a void in the Square after making a swift exit from Walford earlier this year as Big Mo struggled to find company on this Wednesday’s EastEnders.

Freddie Slater has teased a return for Stevie Mitchell as he tries to lift his grandmother Big Mo’s spirits.

The EastEnders lad, portrayed by Bobby Brazier, chatted to Laila Morse’s BBC soap alter ego this Wednesday, August 7, 2024, as he noticed her broody disposition.

And after suggesting her to pick up a new hobby – more particularly birdwatching – Freddie decided to reunite Big Mo with a close pal – Stevie Mitchell.

Fans of the London-based drama will know all about Freddie’s social media skills, which have allowed him to make jaw-dropping discoveries about his father Graham Foster in the past. But could Stevie really return to Walford, a month after his explosive exit?

The newcomer was in a difficult position in July as he was forced to reveal his darkest secrets to estranged son Billy Mitchell (played by Perry Fenwick), including the cause of death of his mother Val. The market stall holder struggled to forgive his father for the years of secrecy and abandonment but Stevie tried to make it all up to Billy during this Thursday’s (July 11) double bill of the London-based drama.

Stevie went a step further before kissing Big Mo goodbye and heading out of the Square as he stole and sold off Phil Mitchell’s (Steve McFadden) car, leaving him in complete distress.

While viewers have since been keen to see Stevie again, nothing has been said about a potential return for actor Alan Ford, who gained recognition for starring in multiple films by award-nominated director Guy Ritchie, most notably crime comedy Snatch (2000). He has also starred in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Exorcist : The Beginning as well as appeared on stage for multiple productions.

One recent theory shared on an online forum has suggested that Stevie could make a comeback to the Square later this year, ahead of Billy and Honey Mitchell’s nuptials.

“Alan Ford has been an absolute asset to this show and it’s such a shame he wasn’t on a regular contract. I really hope they can tempt him back for more appearances in the future. Hopefully, Stevie will attend Billy and Honey’s wedding!” one fan suggested at the time.

Another had replied: “That’s a good idea – surely it’s got to happen this year?”, while a third soap watcher commented: “They will use Stevie’s money for the wedding so yes, likely by the end of the year.” But could Freddie be the cause of it all?
