This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.
Carla Connor’s (Alison King) relationship with DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) is finally out in the open in Coronation Street.
The couple decided to give things a go last month after weeks of trying to deny their feelings.
Earlier this week, the women enjoyed a spa date together, but Lisa was left hurt when Carla failed to correct Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) on the status of their relationship.
Carla was quick to assure her girlfriend that she wasn’t ashamed of being with a woman, but was keen to keep things on the down-low until they were ready to announce their relationship.
However, things took a turn the next day when Lisa let her jealousy get the better of her during Carla’s meeting with a handsome client.
Following her outburst, Lisa admitted that she believed Carla was in denial about her sexuality, and though Carla insisted she wasn’t, she explained that she didn’t want to deal with everyone gossiping about them.
When Lisa pointed out that that was just playing into people’s prejudices, Carla agreed not to hide their relationship anymore.
In tonight’s episode, the opportunity to reveal their relationship came sooner than expected for Carla and Lisa, when Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment), Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) and Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) arrived at the flat unannounced.
When Lisa emerged in just a dressing gown, Bobby soon realised he’d made a big mistake inviting his colleagues over, and was quick to usher an oblivious Kirk and suspicious Fiz over to the Bistro.
As soon as they’d left, Carla emerged from the bedroom wrapped in a sheet, questioning whether or not they’d figured out what she and Lisa had been up to.
Later, as Carla and Lisa debated how long it would take for Carla’s employees to figure out their relationship, they were interrupted by a phone call from Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor), asking them to come and collect drunk Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin).
After safely escorting Betsy from Sally’s sofa into the back of a taxi, Carla couldn’t help but notice Sally pretending not to watch them.
Despite knowing that she was the biggest gossip in the factory, Carla leant in to kiss Lisa in front of her, leaving Sally stunned.
As expected, she wasted no time in finding Kirk, Fiz and Bobby at the Bistro to reveal what she had just witnessed – taking the opportunity to mention that she was the mother of a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, of course.
As Fiz pointed out that they had seen Lisa wearing a dressing gown in Carla’s flat, Bobby confirmed their relationship by revealing that he’d known about it for weeks – much to Sally’s shock.
Kirk also took the group by surprise when he revealed that he’d ‘had an inkling’ because of the way Carla and Lisa looked at each other, comparing it to how he and ex-partner Beth used to look at each other.
With Carla and Lisa’s relationship out in the open, how will the rest of the Coronation Street residents react?
