Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) makes a huge breakthrough regarding her faith in EastEnders next week, following her ordeal at the hands of Pastor Clayton (Howard Saddler).
Earlier this year, Clayton sexually assaulted Yolande at the community centre in harrowing scenes, and after finding the courage to report his crime, she was devastated when the police claimed they did not have enough evidence to charge him.
A second survivor of Clayton’s abuse called Delia later came forward revealing Clayton had attacked her during his time at a previous parish, and the CPS then charged the pastor with two counts of sexual assault.
After a third woman also came forward, Clayton died by suicide, meaning he would never face justice for his crimes.
As a result, Yolande lost her faith, and fans have seen how she has been unable to get involved in the church in recent weeks.
In the lead-up to Christmas, Yolande is still struggling, shutting out husband Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) and even having a tense exchange with Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) in the laundrette.
She later feels guilty when Patrick points out that she forgot it’s the anniversary of his son Paul Trueman’s (Gary Beadle) death.
On Christmas Eve it is the day of Clayton’s burial, and Yolande makes amends with Patrick before heading to church to meet other women he assaulted.
It proves to be somewhat of a breakthrough for her, and she rediscovers her faith.
A buoyed Yolande then heads to lend a hand at the community centre, where preparations are underway for the Walford choir service.
EastEnders airs these scenes from Monday 23 December at 7.30pm on BBC One or stream first from 6am on iPlayer.
