Hollyoaks abuser Abe Fielding has been holding his girlfriend Cleo McQueen captive for over a year, but his sickening crimes will finally catch up with him this week
Hollyoaks star Tyler Conti has confessed he thinks his character Abe Fielding “deserves everything he gets” as his intense storyline of coercive control hits an explosive turning point.
The Channel 4 soap’s fans have watched in horror as Abe has kept his girlfriend Cleo McQueen (played by Nadine Mulkerrin) prisoner for over a year, leading her to falsely believe she’d killed his mother Marie Fielding (Rita Simons) while trying to escape on a motorbike.
But this shocking narrative was just another twisted falsehood from Abe’s playbook to maintain control over Cleo. After Cleo found out Marie is actually alive and that Abe planned to wed Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell), she swiftly hatched a plan for retribution, convincing Abe that her eating disorder has returned and she’s on her deathbed.
In a cunning move, she persuaded him that marrying her would fulfil her dying wish. As Cleo deftly turned the tables, she managed to get Abe to bring her outside to tie the knot at the folly – which is set up for his planned wedding to Peri.

With Peri enjoying her the hen night in The Loft, Cleo says her vows, then cleverly feigns a collapse post-ceremony, sending Abe into a desperate panic where he ends up bundling her into a car wrapped in a blanket, oblivious to whether she’s alive or not.
Spoilers have verified the shocking twist that sees Cleo’s supposed demise in the river at the hands of her abuser, only for fans to be left gaping as she re-emerges to plot revenge. Tyler, portraying Abe, insists on scripted vengeance, stating: “I think he deserves everything he gets. There needs to be justice otherwise we question what story are we telling if Cleo doesn’t get her justice.”, reports the Liverpool Echo.

As the nemesis ensnares more hearts with his menace, Tyler comments: “The more evil he is, the bigger the comeuppance needs to be served by the people he’s treated badly. It needs a woman because that twisted element.”
Reflecting on the chilling plotlines since his entrance, Tyler elaborates: “I knew what the storyline was but I didn’t know where it was necessarily going to but in the first two weeks of me joining I realised it can go anywhere and anything can happen.”

His early days on set schooled him swiftly in showbiz survival: “I was very much thrown in the deep end and I now I comfortable in the deep end and it’s quite nice that nothing is too shocking anymore and you just learn to swim in it.”
Since his January debut, Tyler has encountered real-world backlash for his on-screen villainy, which has spilled onto the streets and into his inbox, revealing: “I’ve been shouted in the streets and I’ve got some dark messages but when I tell people about it they say it’s a testament to how I’ve been playing it.”
