Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) found herself in hot water in Friday’s Coronation Street after stealing someone’s identity.
She attended a legal lecture with Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) in the latest episode of the ITV soap, and it wasn’t long before she was caught in a comical commotion after impersonating someone.
Alya had extended the invite to her after impressing the solicitor with her recent legal letter to Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson).
Earlier this month, fans saw how Evelyn informed Steve that she was taking him to the small claims court after he accidentally ruined her new backgammon set.
Steve sought Alya’s advice who recommended he pay the £325 in damages.
After he handed over the cash, Evelyn revealed the solicitor’s letter was a fake and she wrote it herself, leaving Alya amused.
Since then, Evelyn has been reading up about law and jumped at the chance to attend a legal lecture with Alya on Friday.
But after arriving, she was put out after Alya realised she didn’t have a plus one after all – leaving Evelyn to improvise.
Picking up a random name badge, she then pretended to be another attendee called Marjorie.
However, a comical commotion ensued when the real Majorie turned up and demanded to know why Evelyn was impersonating her.
Roy later suggested Evelyn should embark on a law course but she was dismissive.
However, with Maureen Lipman due to take an extended break from the soap in the coming weeks, could Evelyn change her mind?
Recently, Mauren announced she would be cutting back on her contracted hours at the ITV soap and step into a recurring role upon her return.
‘Roy sees potential in Evelyn, he sees that she’s more than just a pretty face’ Maureen told to The Sun. ‘But he’s sort of the architect of what happens to me over the next few months.
‘The best thing that could happen is a series about Evelyn going to university. Can you imagine if all the students start dressing like Evelyn?
‘I’ll be absent for a while, and then coming back. I’m not going to die but then I’ll be in and out of it because I want to have a bit of a life.’
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 or stream first from 7am on ITVX.
