BBC Strictly Come Dancing champ says she’s ‘out of work’ just one year after winning show

Just one year on from lifting the BBC Strictly Come Dancing glitterball trophy with Vito Coppola, Ellie Leach has shared that she is ‘out of a job’.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Ellie Leach has shared that she is “out of a job” as her latest venture came to an end. She gave a candid insight into what she has been doing with her newly unemployed days, on Thursday evening.

Taking to Instagram, the former Strictly star shared: “Guys, I’m out of a job, right. Everyone knows that the play finished. It’s been a whole year, I’m glad to be home.

“Now my days consist of getting out of bed, really whenever I want and playing the High Street verus High End game that’s on This Morning. I must say, I’m quite good at this game.”

She went on to give it a go but managed to get it wrong as she said: “That’s ok. It’s alright for a blip. But yeah, if anyone was wondering what I’m doing with my days, it’s playing High Street versus High End on This Morning.”

Recently, Ellie has been on tour as she took on the role of Miss Scarlett in the stage production Cluedo 2 – The Next Chapter. The role was the stage acting debut for the actress. The production ended on November 30, 2024 after nine months on the road, but has now seemingly left the actress without any work.

The hilarious murder mystery was based on the classic board game and set in the swinging 60s. Speaking about starring in the stage show, Ellie – known to millions as Faye Windass in Coronation Street – said: “What can I say – bringing the iconic character of Miss Scarlett to life on stage is so much fun – as is seeing audience members from literally eight to 80 out there, having a really good time.”

“It’s out of my comfort zone, but I’ve been enjoying it,” she continued. It’s a long time to be away from home. I’m not going to say I’ve found it easy, I haven’t because I’m a homebird. I live with my family and love being home, so it’s something I’ve struggled with.”

“But when you do a theatre show you’re all in the same boat. The rest of the cast are away from their families, too, so we form a sort of tour family.

“You’re all going through the same thing, and if ever one of us has a problem or feels a bit down or homesick, we’re all there for each other.”

Ellie won the hearts of the nation, alongside her professional dance partner Vito Coppola as they lifted the Glitterball trophy on last year’s Strictly Come Dancing. Speaking about their relationship, she said: “Strictly really opened my eyes; I built my confidence there.

“I think everyone saw how much I grew week to week. He was an amazing teacher, and he believed in me, which I probably didn’t at the start. So when this opportunity came up, I felt excited because I’d learnt to believe in myself more.”
