ITV bosses have revealed their huge Christmas storyline, with one shock proposal which could cause several more issues for the couple’s already turbulent relationship
Wedding bells are ringing as Coronation Street officially confirm the details of a shock proposal at Christmas – but previous struggles might get in the way.
After a rocky few months, Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) will officially propose to Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) at Christmas, ITV bosses has confirmed. Most recently, the pair split after Bethany worried Daniel did too many things to hurt her.
Earlier this week, fans saw Bethany telling Daniel she’s leaving him as he doesn’t make her happy anymore. She has had a long battle with her self confidence following the introduction of her stoma bag. after botched cosmetic surgery. Daniel also shouted at her after he found out she had been lying at her support group about having cancer – something he thought was an insult to Sinead’s memory.
Daniel drops down on one knee of Christmas Day
In a shock twist, Daniel headed over to the Rovers to confide in Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) about what had happened. The ex-fiances had a strained history, with Daisy cheating on Daniel during their relationship.
Fans also saw Daisy cover up Daniel’s drunk driving incident, when she torched Debbie Webster’s car to keep him in the clear. Clearly still not over Daniel, Daisy pulled him in for a kiss and he did not back away. The former couple then slept together.
Smitten, Daisy told Daniel they should tell Bethany they were back together. However, before she could get too carried away, Daniel revealed he was upset he gave into temptation. He said: “It shouldn’t have happened just now – I shouldn’t have let it happen. It’s all my fault, I am so sorry.”
Back at his flat, Bethany revealed she wanted to stay with him. The pair appeared to patch things up, with Daniel set to propose.
Daniel and Bethany have had a tough relationship
In scenes airing on Christmas Day, Bethany dresses up again for Gail Rodwell’s wedding. This pleases Daniel, who is worried Bethany is holding herself back after her surgery.
Bethany seems to have taken a turn, which Daniel sees as the perfect moment to propose. Bethany hands over a vintage watch as a Christmas present. Initially, she is upset over Daniel’s nonchalant reaction.
After this, Daniel proves her wrong by dropping down on one knee and asking her to marry him. Daniel’s previous wrongdoings don’t appear to have yet been revealed, however, so it’s yet to be seen whether Bethany will accept.
Coronation Street is on ITV at 8pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
