Claire joined the Corrie cast last year as Cassie Plummer and has teased her character’s future on the cobbles
Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has teased wedding bells as she looks ahead to her character’s future on the cobbles. The actress was reminiscing about her soap past before cheekily suggesting a wedding could be in her soap future.
As fans of the ITV soap know, Claire joined the Corrie cast last year as Cassie Plummer, the daughter of Evelyn Plummer and long-lost mum of Tyrone Dobbs.
She made her debut after Cassie tracked down her mum to the street, but when Evelyn spotted her, she ignored her. Later Evelyn received a call and was seen hurrying into A&E reception, explaining that her daughter had been admitted as an emergency after she overdosed.
Cassie later revealed her identity to Tyrone and has since made herself part of his and his children’s lives but was quick to ruffle feathers on the street. She seemingly settled down and was getting on with her family but now has taken to causing friction in another household – the Barlows.
In more recent months, Cassie has found herself in the fold at No.1 Coronation Street, having become Ken’s carer after he fell down the stairs and fractured his pelvis. But when he eventually decided it was time to let her go, Cassie took drastic action and was seen spiking Ken’s drinks.
Things then took a dramatic turn when Ken was rushed to hospital, but Cassie escaped when Tracy Barlow was blamed for mixing up Ken’s medication which she dropped on the floor. Cassie has now found a new way of keeping her job and the storyline is set to develop in the coming months.
With a will they, won’t they relationship with Steve continuing to bubble under the surface, Claire hasn’t ruled out playing Cassie’s big day. Taking to Instagram the soap star shared an old photo from her days on Brookside, the defunct Channel 4 soap where she played Lindsey Corkhill from 1991 to 2003.
Alongside the beautiful snap, Claire wrote: “The only time I have ever been married was on telly in Brookie, to the lovely Peter played by Sam Kane who went on to marry @lindalusardi in real life. Happy times in Brookie.” She then added: “Who knows….. might be Steve McDonald next, or maybe Cassie is too busy poisoning Kenny?”
Despite her tease, fans were quick to flood Claire with message about the nostalgic reminder. @farrowlow said: “I remember these days.” @georginatilly echoed: “I remember it well.” @regentsparkskinexperts commented: “I remember this young lady! How time flies Claire.”
@linda4387smith replied: “That takes me back.” @racheljoule shared: “Aww I was just talking about Brookside yesterday. Loved it.” @keithgraham180 posted: “Oh you made a beautiful bride.” @ormondeyasmin added: “You and he haven’t changed a bit!!”
