Emmerdale confirmed Moira and Cain have hit crisis point in their marriage but viewers have been left predicting the mechanic is suffering from a more worrying problem
Emmerdale has teased a break-up for Moira Dingle (played by Natalie J Robb) and husband Cain (Jeff Hordley) as fans point out they have never seen him ‘that drunk’ before.
Since Moira underwent surgery on her brain tumour and Cain cheated on her with Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly), he has been struggling with his betrayal.
As Moira waited for her hospital results Cain failed to show up to the appointment and spent the night in a prison cell. On Wednesday (December 11), he was released but headed straight to The Woolpack to knock back whisky.
After a run-in with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) about his recent drunkenness, Cain left the pub and headed to the allotment. Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) found his pal drinking cans of beer as he sat cold on a bench.
Liam took Cain back home to his to sober up, before dropping him off at Butler’s. Moira was furious with Cain’s drunken state as he tearfully tried to apologise.
He also braced himself to confess to his fling with Ruby but before he could tell all, Moira admitted that she hadn’t been honest about her hospital visit.
Moira told him that she had an atypical meningioma, and although this wasn’t cancer, she would need radiotherapy in case the tumour ever came back.
As Cain looked shocked and tried to offer reassurance, Moira confirmed that she clearly couldn’t rely on him for the support she desperately needed, and will now face treatment alone.
Following Cain’s actions, Emmerdale fans rushed to social media to predict he is developing a drinking problem. Taking to X, one person wrote: “Anyone ever seen Cain THIS hammered before? #Emmerdale.”
A seconded demanded: “Oh grow up Cain! #Emmerdale”, while a third chimed in: “Wonder who’s looking after the garage when Cain’s bladdered #Emmerdale.”
Another replied: “We didn’t even see him start. I’m wondering if its something else. Medication #Emmerdale.”
“Cain spends a night off the ale in prison. Comes straight out and gets smashed. Why? How? #Emmerdale,” asked another.
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
